Setting: School Hallway
It was a rainy morning and everyone was busy preparing for our annual freshmen orientation. I was walking along the hallway going to my office, wearing my favorite floral Adidas collared shirt tucked in with black formal belt, black jeans, and pointed black shoes. I am Mark Anthony Montinola, the school-of-education president. I am taking up Physical Education and currently on my 2nd year. I was nervous, not because of the speech that I was about to deliver, but the insane idea of our dean that I needed to perform. While walking going to my office, I heard someone playing the piano in our Music room.
Mark : Ano yun? Bakit may tumutogtog sa music room?
I was nervous, talking to myself. Anong nangyayari. As I look at the door, I see nothing but just a shadow of a 5'11 masculin- built man wearing a jacket.
Until my secretary called me
Claire: Mark! Mark! ( As she shouted my name) Hali ka na dito! 7:30 na at Wala ka pa ding napipiling kanta.
I ran immediately while remembering the song that I just heard.
Setting: Inside Marks Office
Throwback, as I flashback what really happened
I was trying to hit the song, "Having you near me" when suddenly, our Dean secretly went inside our office. Since I was facing the window, I did not notice her. As I faced clockwise, I was in extreme shocked with the fact that I even said a bad word!
Mark: Ay deputa ka. Ma'am sorry. Nagulat po ako. With my face feeling worried.
Lumapit ako sa kanya and I held her hand.
Dean: It's fine Mr. Montinola. I didn't know you have a beautiful voice.
I felt overwhelmed, I even blushed.
Mark: Ay salamat Po Ma'am!
Dean: You know what Mr. Montinola para makabawi ka sakin, I am assigning you to perform for our freshmen orientation next year. You still have months to prepare. Be ready!
Mark: (Feeling confused) ah ma'am wait! Ah ano po yun?
Dean: Prepare! I am Expecting you.
Then she left with a smile on her face.
Mark: Ano ba Yan? Hahaha.
I was laughing all along while thinking na sana pala nilock ko na lang Yung door bago ako kumanta
*** end of flashback
Mark: Naalala ko yun. Hiyang hiya talaga ako Cla.
Claire: Ayan sige birit pa, ano! Wala ka pang naiisip na kanta. Ano na Bessy. Dali at naghihintay ung pianist mo.
I hummed the tune of the song so that we could remember the title.
Mark: Ganito siya CLA (humming)
Claire: "Nosi Balasi" as she laugh.
Mark: Gaga rap un. Ung kanta sad song. Breakup song
Claire: Parang "Sana" ata of SUD
Mark: No. It's not. I think it's English song.
While we are both thinking, the pianist pressed the keys of the keyboard and said:
Pianist: Ganito ba Ang tono Niya
Mark: Yeah Yan
Pianist: Malungkot nga. I think its "Sometimes love just ain't enough".
While thinking and wondering who that person was, I got curious kung anong masakit ang pinagdadaanan niya at kung sa rami-raming pwede niyang tugtogin at iyon pa.
10 minutes left before the program started, I practiced the song one run and immediately proceed to the venue.
Everything was settled, the freshmen students had already found their comfortable seats. The committees were ready and the program was set.
The heads have already given their speeches and its now time for me to deliver my special performance.
Host: For our special performance let's give it up for the department president, Mr. Mark Anthony Montinola
Mark: Thank you. It was indeed a good year to all of us. The department is so happy to have you all and we are looking forward to work with you our dear freshmen. On the other hand, I was given a task by our lovely Dean to deliver a song. Actually I am not prepared. I really don't know what to sing and this is my first time to sing in front of a huge crowd. Feeling emptied and trying to think of a good song, I heard someone from the music room playing the piano. I felt it. I loved it. You can really feel the pain of that person. Though I wasn't able to see his face because the place was so dark, I know that that person is in deep sorrow. Whoever you are, this song is for you. Be strong, be brave and I am here for you.
The piano started playing and I sang the song
"Now, I don't want to lose you,
but I don't want to use you just to have somebody by my side.
And I don't want to hate you,
I don't want to take you, but I don't want to be the one to cry.
And I don't really matter to anyone anymore.
But like a fool I keep losing my place and
I keep seeing you walk through that door.
But there's a danger in loving somebody to much,
and it's bad when you know it's your heart you can't trust.
There's a reason why people don't stay where they are.
While looking at him secretly crying, I did not notice that teardrops were also falling from my eyes. I felt his pain and I just wanted to help him.
A song might just be a piece of lyrics, but it will hurt you down to its pieces.
