It was morning. Judi couldn't get much sleep last night and even her crystal dark eyes started to become red.
How do you sleep when you find out that what you know could be the end of your life. When you find out that some truths are better left untold.
"Look on the bright side Judi, this will soon be over and you will be back to your normal life," that was what she told herself everyday since her life became a turmoil of a danger.
Today was Friday, just days after they had found out the truth and now it looks like, they have been living this secret life for much longer.
Everyday passes so slow, straining as the moon and sun transcends.
Judi took a quick shower and boarded a bus to work. Last year, it was a dream come true for her to be among the reporters on NTB, but now she clearly had no flair to pursue such dreams and career in journalism. It had even been the reason why she was in this particular messy situation right now.
All she wanted to do was to stay alive, stay safe and keep her mouth shut.
The open office of NTB was in its normal state. A loud place of chatter and clicking of different computer systems.
She took her normal position and sat down to write but all she could think about was "Tuesday."
One day had changed her whole life. It had made her wanted with a gold bar on her head. She was safe for now but who knew how long she was going to stay that way.
"Hi Judi," Mara brought her back to reality.
"Hey," she sighed.
"Where is Makinde?" she asked.
The word "Makinde" brought tremors into her veins. Was he okay? She had forgotten to pray for him today. Maybe, because it was harder to pray with the fear curling through her blood."I don't know" she replied.
"You guys have been close for long now Judi," a pause "Is there something you are not telling me?"
Of course, there is a lot I'm not telling you. We found out something and we are in real shit because of it.
"No," she sounded too quiet.
"Hmmm," Mara stared at her with disbelief on her face.
She knew that Judi was obviously hiding something. She was never this quiet. Not even for once and all of a sudden, she was dumb cat and Makinde vanished into thin air.
Judi was relieved when her eyes twisted away from her and went back to her computer. She would obviously ask again. But for now, it wasn't her duty to think up a lie to keep the answers of Mara pending.
Judi was still lost in her computer system, thinking of where to start when the receptionist came for her.
As her heels clinked closer to Judi, her breathe was sunk with every step but she kept her composure. Keeping her calm was the only reason why she wasn't crazy right now screaming that everyone should leave her life alone and let her be.
"Miss Judi," the receptionist smiled at her.
"Hi," she tried to feign a smile but her courtesy was all gone and what remained was just fear.
"The boss have sent for you," she gave her a light courtesy smile, "I think some police men want to talk to you." She stopped for a while then kicked off again as if it was a reminder, "Its urgent, miss."
Her heart raced so loud that she felt like she was going to faint. All this trouble had started when Makinde had gone to the police to report. That was when he had learned that no-one could be trusted. Literally, no one... Judi stood up. She was damn scared but she knew the only way to stay alive was to stay calm. To shut the frack up.
