Ezra had now crashed into another forest located on Melemele Island. This fall was also from miles above the ground, so that didn't help Ezra at all since he was already severely weakened from his battle against Mewtwo. Tapu Koko (The Legendary guardian Pokémon for Melemele Island) had actually witnessed almost the entire battle unfold and also saw Ezra's crash landing onto the island. Tapu Koko quickly flew over to where Ezra crashed and eventually found him out cold. The Tapu guardian flew off to gather the other Tapu(s) and tell them what had just happened. Tapu Koko soon came back with the other 3 Tapu(s), Tapu Lele; Guardian of Akala Island, Tapu Bulu; Guardian of Ula'ula Island, and Tapu Fini; Guardian of Poni Island. They all talked in between each other for some time, eventually, Ezra was healed a good bit by Tapu Fini and was given a black Z-ring as a gift. After that, the 3 Tapu(s) all went back to their respective islands and Tapu Koko flew off again.

Ezra eventually woke up an hour later and found that, though his wounds were not nearly gone, they were healed quite a bit. He also looked at his wrist to find the Z-ring as well. After checking himself over, he decided that since he was now (once again) severely weakened, he should just lay low for a while and try to learn about this new region he had just stumbled upon. So over the course of a couple of days, he went to libraries and read up on where he was located, the native Pokémon, and the Legendaries of this region. After he had finally caught up on everything he needed to know, he decided he should head out and explore Melemele Island. Before Ezra had even set foot out of the library, he passed by Professor Kukui. While the professor passed by Ezra, he saw the Z-ring that he was wearing, but also noticed that he had no Pokéballs except for a Master Ball. He proceeded to ask Ezra on who he was and if he was a trainer. Tyler answered by saying his name and that he was not a legitimate Pokémon trainer. Kukui saw the potential of Ezra as a Pokémon trainer and decided to take him back to his lab to help him pick out a starter Pokémon...
