changbin felt his heart drop in his chest as he looked at felix's bleeding arm. then his eyes locked with felix's, who, despite his situation, looked calm.
"binnie, they scratched me, that means i'm at risk of falling sick..."
"no, lix it's going to be okay," changbin's voice wavered, tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
"binnie, come on," felix tried again, "it's not safe for you-"
"no felix," changbin said desperately, "just because you got a cut, doesn't mean you'll get the disease."
"i know, but we have to be realistic here."
"lix, i swear to god, we'll clean it up. you'll be fine, okay?"
"binnie..." felix tried, his voice soothing and level as he tried to get changbin to listen to him. however, changbin clenched his fists in frustration.
"felix stop!" he finally shouted, his voice loud amongst the gentle rustling of leaves. changbin had never raised his voice at felix before, and he immediately wished he could take it back. but the damage was done, and it was too late to stop now. "how are you so calm? you act as if nothing around us fazes you! do you understand how broken i would be if something happened to you? and you're here, acting as if you don't even care!"
felix's eyes darkened in anger at changbin's words, an emotion changbin hadn't seen on the boy in a long time. "i don't care?" he scoffed, making changbin shrink under his heated glare, "you think that i don't care?"
"changbin, everything i do is for you. i never cried because i wanted to stay strong for you. i comforted you every fucking night when you cried yourself to sleep because i knew that you needed someone to be there for you," felix's voice cracked as he felt a lump grow in his throat, "i love you, changbin. yet you say that i'm the one that doesn't care? have you ever asked me whether i'm okay? you don't hug me, or comfort me, you've only distanced yourself from me, and then suddenly act as though you care for me? hell, changbin, you can't even look me in the fucking eyes!"
changbin felt tears spill from his eyes as he heard the pain in felix's voice. he saw felix take a step back from him and nearly felt it shatter in his chest, "i do care for you felix, more than you could ever imagine. i do love you..."
"oh yeah?" felix snapped, "you say that, but have you ever proven it? can you prove you love me?"
everything stilled around them as changbin looked at him, and felix glared right back at him. changbin didn't know when it had started raining, but the droplets pattered and combined with the soft whispering of leaves, making a gentle rhythm around them.
they were only standing a metre apart, but it felt like much, much more. the rain acting like a wall between them.
changbin felt like they were world's apart.
"can you prove you love me?" felix repeated, but this time it only came out as a hushed murmur. soft and unsure as changbin looked him in the eye for the first time since he could remember. changbin swallowed, and his legs began moving of their own accord.
he closed the distance between them and came to stand right in front of felix. their faces were barely inches apart, but for once, changbin did not break eye contact or back away. neither did felix.
despite the height difference, changbin noted that felix looked so small, so young, so innocent. changbin had always assumed felix never wanted to talk about his feelings, never that felix had been waiting for changbin to ask so he was sure that changbin would be okay with listening to his troubles. felix was too innocent to be forced into this, too innocent to have felt the responsibility.
he reached up to brush felix's hair out of his face, his gaze shifting to his own hand as he gently let it trail down to cup felix's cheek. he brushed his thumb over felix's freckles, which stood out beautifully against his sun-kissed cheeks.
despite the rain, a sliver of sunlight peeked shyly through the clouds, landing against them and making felix look almost ethereal in it's delicate glow.
oh, who was he kidding? felix was ethereal.
"i do love you felix," changbin breathed out, making eye contact with felix once again. then, before changbin could change his own mind, he moved forward to tenderly press his lips against felix's.
their two worlds collided. the kiss was gentle and vulnerable, but every emotion he had felt in the past weeks came crashing down like waves against rocks. his heart felt as though it was hammering in his ears, and he felt himself being consumed. felix's soft lips felt like a dream against his, but he forced himself to pull away before he lost himself in the bliss.
so he parted from felix, slowly letting his hand drop. felix hadn't pulled away, but he hadn't kissed him back either. he felt his throat dry up as the reality of the situation sunk in again. i've screwed up, he thought as he looked at felix's unreadable expression.
"i'm... i'm sorry," the words spilled from his swollen lips as he took a step back, "i just... i thought..:"
changbin's voice choked up as he stumbled a step back
he had messed everything up.
