Chapter 9

* Chelby'sPOV*

   Ruby had asked me to help her to make Alfred to ask her to the dance?! Oh my goodness, is this for real? How the heck am I gonna help her? I'm also thinking of a way to make Alfred to ask me to the dance.

    '' Ruby...'' I tried to continue the sentence but couldn't.

   '' Yeah???'' She replied while smiling, curious of what I was gonna say. Her smile was so cheery that I couldn't bring myself to tell her how I felt about this. I'll just go with it then....doesn't matter much to me anyways.....doesn't matter.......

    '' Nah, its nothing,'' I replied with a fake reassuring smile. What could I do? She's my close friend and she really want to go to the dance with him. How could I say no..?

  '' Wait... why do you want Alfred? I thought that you were more of an Evan fan?'' I asked her quizzically. I really was confused though.

  ''err...that....umm..'' she stuttered in a monotonous voice and I couldn't help but notice that her cheeks were now as red as a crab. Its kinda weird though....Ruby had always been calm and collected..usually her face has no expression even though she was prettier with more emotions.

   She was about to continue her sentence when the door to one of the many cubicles in the bathroom which faced to the both of us was swung opened. Due to reflexes, we both turned around to see Shelby, looking expressionless.

    Shelby glared at Ruby for awhile while we both were staring at her curiously. I wondered what she was up to..

  She scanned over Ruby for a couple of seconds before overlapping her arms in front of her chest and smiled smugly.

    '' Heh, You think that a guy as hot as Alfred would want to take you to a dance? Does he even want to talk to you for more than 5 minutes? I THINK NOT'' she said loudly right in front of Ruby's face while pointing her perfectly manicured nail to Ruby.

   Ruby looked petrified...I mean...who wouldn't? Here in my high school, no one and I mean absolutely no one goes against the most popular girl in school which sadly turns out to be Shelby. And if you even dare to, she would definitely make the whole school to go against you. Don't even make her hate you by a little bit is the most used advice in school.

    You might be wondering why the whole school didn't hate me only some people even though I was clearly being hated by Shelby and I sometimes go against her. Well, lets just call it the perks of being her cousin. She wouldn't go to that extreme where she had to bully her own closest relative. Despite the whole rumour thing that's still going on around school, I was pretty respected in school.  Well, who would dare physical bully the bully's cousin? no one.

    I turned my attention back to both Ruby and Shelby from Shelby who were now standing in silence. Shelby looked like a tiger ready to pounce on a mouse, and sadly, the mouse had to be Ruby.

   '' I....I'm so sorry....please forgive me...I won't be so naive thinking that Alfred would even want to talk to me...I'm so sorry,'' I heard Ruby suddenly say, her voice almost cracking on the last part. Her head was hung down and she was shaking like crazy, it won't need a genius to know she's crying.

   Shelby just replied with a chuckle and walked away from the bathroom, leaving Ruby who was paralyzed with fear and me.

   Wait, wasn't Shelby acting nice with me? Then, why would she think confronting my friend in front of myself until she cries was nice?

   I took to my heels out of the bathroom before asking Ruby to wipe her tears away and wash her face to the hallway which I hope to find Shelby at.

   I finally caught sight of a familiar brunette and quickly yelled for her.

   '' Shelby!!!'' I shouted and stopped running.

   Shelby turned back and her eyes widened and ran to me.

   '' Yeah?'' she asked me acting all innocent and pure which was totally the opposite of her.

   '' Why did yo do that? I thought you were all nice now!'' I asked her.

   She was silent for a minute or so before replying.

   '' Oops? Old habit hard to erase huh? Soorrryyyy'' she replied while winking before dashing off to the parking lot. Wait, she didn't bring a car....oh yeah...she told me in the morning that she would take a cab home. She said she didn't want to trouble me. Trouble my foot, she's a hindrance in my life already. And whats with that reply? she was so lying. I'll just ask her next time.

  I quickly remembered Ruby and dashed off from the hallway to the bathroom,

   When I opened the bathroom door, I saw Ruby sitting near on the sink with her head hung down again.

   '' Ruby? You ok?'' I asked worriedly.

   '' I'm fine,'' she replied her voice not cracking which was a nice sign. It means she wasn't crying anymore when I was in the hallway talking to Shelby.

   '' Chelby,'' she called.

   '' Yeah?'' 

    '' I won't lose to her, I just won't. Help me with Alfred, please, I don't want her to look so smugly ever again,'' she replied while shaking vigorously.

   I smiled proudly at her, proud that someone like her was my friend.

   '' Don't worry, I will. And I have a plan also,''
