Ok, hear me out for a sec, my dudes.
I have a headcanon.
And is a strange one.
Just listen to this crazy girl.

Here:
After "Creature Feature", Monty and Carla stay at school after everyone leaves so they can sneak into the principal's office and the science classroom for some stuff, since the principal disappeared and Dr. Danner died. But then, the elevator brings them all the way down to the lab (It got messed up after Kid played with the buttons to save Lily and Billy).
Then, they found everything, including Penny's completely destroyed body. Both became completely shocked at discovering that she was a robot, but then thought about re-building her and teach her how to have a normal life again.
So they did, and are now her mentors. And since her aunt Margaret disappeared with "the research", she now lives in Monty's basement.
Extra: She sometimes calls them "mom" and "dad", even if they tell her to stop doing it (Monty secretly likes it)
Yeaaaaa... Yeh.
