Betrayed. Sophie jerked off her pendant and threw it into the sea, watching as it disappeared with the tiniest of splashes. How could they? Sophie glared at the sky, wishing it were storming. The bright blue sky definitely didn't agree with her mood. The Black Swan had broken their code. Revenge. Sophie knew the perfect revenge. What better way to get back at someone by joining the enemy? And...that would mean betraying her friends. Fighting her closest supporters. Hurting her family. Sophie's mind looped to the grief she had seen in her friends' eyes when Keefe and Tam joined the Neverseen. But she'd been used. Treated like a puppet. Just an assistant to help the Black Swan reach their greater dream. She had to make a difference before she was forgotten. Sophie grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper and scribbled a note. I've made my decision. ~Sophie. She leaped to the Hall of Illuminations and set the note on top of the Lodestar Mirror. That night, Sophie couldn't sleep. She stayed up tossing and turning, wondering if she'd made the right decision. When the first rays of sun tinted the sky dawn, she finally fell into a shallow, nightmare-filled sleep.
There was a note tucked in the crevice in the side of the mirror. Sophie pulled it out carefully, holding her breath. The note was in the unmistakable, neat handwriting of Lady Gisela. The abandoned hideout. Tomorrow. ~The Neverseen
Sophie snuck carefully to the Leapmaster, making sure nobody could see her, then whispered "Foxfire". She was now tall enough to lick the sensor to the Silver Tower, and barely flinched before she did. She managed to reach the Hall of Illuminations without stumbling. Sophie would need a Shade for this, she realized. She took a quick glance around. Nobody. She pulled out her Imparter. "Show me Tam Song."
It had taken Tam a lot of convincing. Sophie assured him she was just checking to see if she could find any clues in the hideout, and she couldn't convince him to let her go in alone. When she and Tam stumbled into the hideout, Sophie told him, "Leave." "Why?" "Please, just leave." "No way. What if the Neverseen are monitoring this hideout?" "They are." A figure in a black cloak stepped out of the shadows and tossed back her hood. Lady Gisela. "Run, Sophie!" Tam hissed, launching a ball of shadowflux at another figure. Gethen, it looked like. "I take it that means you haven't told your little friend that this meeting was your idea?" Gethen raised an eyebrow. Tam looked confused for a second. Then he seemed to understand. "No, don't do this," He pleaded. More Neverseen members swarmed out, surrounding Tam. They bound him tightly to a stone column, and Sophie pushed down any regrets she had about joining the Neverseen. Too late for regretting now. "The Black Swan destroyed me. This is my revenge." She said coldly as Lady Gisela held up a crystal and they all glittered away.
