Killian
She hadn't spoken to me that day. It was a few years ago now, but it left me in pieces. I told her that I was sorry and she said that she was too. I never wanted to make her feel like she had to apologise. I wanted to talk to her, but she left. Melody left without a trace.
I was told that evil don't communicate with good, but I'm 'evil' now so, I don't have to listen to rules, right? I watched over her day after day, falling to pieces more and more with each day that I watched her move on from our friendship. I decided that if I was going to be stuck here forever, I might as well make the best of the rare chance I was given to go to Earth to try and redeem myself.
I landed back in that house. The place that I died haunted me all these years, but I deserved it. I was the one that allowed the hate to control me. I decided to go out for a walk and ended up under our tree. The promise of our friendship fading as the tree grew and healed. The mark that I had carved through it, out of anger, remained deep and strong.
I turned around and saw Melody land on the ground in front of me. She was still as beautiful as the day she left me at the gate that I dread every day. I took the chance to try and talk to her, but she ignored me. She went to walk away and, I know I should have left her but, I stopped her. When she turned around, she closed her eyes fast. She was scared of me. Melody opened her eyes, slowly, and all I saw was my reflection in her eyes. I wished I hadn't made her turn around, but as I learnt all those years ago, there is no such thing as turning back the clock.
The longer I stared into her eyes, the calmer she grew. I wasn't sure if she was adjusting to what I looked like or if what I was seeing in her eyes was real. Either way, she was calming down. The moment she had calmed, she simply lowered her head and told me that we weren't allowed to talk.
"Who's to say that? Just because good and evil don't talk, doesn't mean they can't." I could only hope that she would see what I was saying and wouldn't turn away. I was relieved that she didn't. Melody stood still, waiting for me to continue so, I did. I told her about how I didn't even feel like I was in control and how I knew that it was no excuse for my actions. Melody just looked at me. She looked at me and smiled.
"I forgive you." Three words I never thought I would hear her say and yet, she was standing right here in front of me, saying them. I took the chance to tell her how I felt, telling her that, even after all these years of watching her move on from our friendship, I hadn't stopped loving her.
Melody stared at me for a short while longer, her eyes continuing to sparkle how they had before she died. With a slight laugh, Melody told me that she never moved on from our friendship because she too had never stopped loving me.
I didn't know what had come over me, but I kissed her. I didn't hesitate, nor did I think. I kissed her and I loved every moment of the kiss. A short moment after, she pulled away. She pulled away and frowned. I didn't feel hurt because I didn't ask her first. She looked at me and spoke a promise.
"There is nothing I can do for you, but like you said, just because good and evil don't speak, doesn't mean they can't. For this reason, I promise that every second month, I will be here waiting, right under this tree." I nodded and agreed, promising to be here too. Melody smiled and told me that next time she came down, two months from now, she would bring our parents with her, so that I could apologise for what I had done and make things right with them too.
