Flashback

Doctor: (entered at Joe's and soon noticed the blonde who had disturbed her thoughts sitting in the bar) Hi! (sat next to the blonde) White wine please.(look at the blonde) You look familiar.

Firefighter: I drink here a lot. (without looking at the woman)

Doctor: Um... no! Were you in the hospital earlier? (she knew she was there but still need to try to get notice by the blonde)

Firefighter: Yes, I was. I'm a firefighter and I was... bringing something. (not knowing exactly what say)

Doctor: Oh my God! Yes! (excited) It was you who ran in with the nose.

Firefighter: Yes, yes!

Doctor: Wow!

Firefighter: Captain Maya Bishop. (Look at the doctor)

Doctor: Dr. Carina Deluca. Okay... If I buy you a drink, will you tell me how you ended up carrying a nose in a plastic bag?

Maya: I'm sorry. I'm drinking alone tonight. (looked away from the doctor and looked at her glass of whiskey)

Carina: Okay. Are you sure? (their eyes crossed again and Carina's smile kept Maya hypnotized)

 Maya: Maybe not.

End of flashback

By Carina...

Honor. What is it that defines an honorable person? Character attached to courage? My Nonna used to say - "honor is courage facing fear in a fight where only the character remains". - and I kind of agree. Although I think honor only appears when the fight defines your character. After all, it's very easy to be honest when this has never been put to the test. Worthy attitudes need courageous movements. It is not easy to be who you are, to love yourself in a world like ours.

My father, for example, was a very successful doctor, renowned, awarded and consequently had a lot of money. But he lost everything in the name of an old prejudice related to mental illness. He killed four people inside an operating room for refusing to treat his bipolarity. And that didn't get him arrested, but it ruined his professional life forever.

Love can be an act of honor. It takes courage to open yourself to others, not to allow your fears to prevent you from treading the path you once imagined yourself taking. I don't think the present should suffer the consequences for the past, but sometimes that's inevitable.

Flashback

The day has already started intense and a blizzard has caused many people to use the station as shelter from the cold. Dean was worried about JJ and took the 39-week pregnant woman to his work. What neither of them counted on was that she would go into labor. Maya had done some deliveries during her career and exactly for this fact was assigned to bring the baby into the world. The blonde could barely hide her nervousness, after all, it was the baby of one of the firefighters she worked with. If something went wrong, and unfortunately, that could happen, everyone would hate her a little more than they already did.

Carina: (Facetiming) If mama's relaxed and you're relaxed there's really nothing to be done. Let nature do what it does.

Maya: (sitting on her banker) Right! But I'm not relaxed at all and neither is she.

Carina: Don't you run into burning buildings for a living? (asked with a smile on her face)

Maya: Yes, but I'm usually not running into buildings that have babies flying out vaginas in them.

Carina: Well... first of all babies don't fly out they slowly slide out and it is perfectly natural and beautiful especially if you stay calm.

Maya: Like turn up the Enya?

Carina: Turn up the Enya yes. And Maya... I don't know you all that well yet but is plain to see that you're excellent at whatever you put your mind to...gold medals and fire captains and..

Maya: I'm good at a lot of things.

Carina: (smiles) I have no doubt. You can do this! I'm not worried about you or the mama.

Maya: Can I call you later and not talk about babies?

Carina: You can call me anytime and talk about anything you want.

Maya: (smiles)

Maybe Carina didn't dare to admit it yet, but she was already totally committed to her feelings for Maya. And the two women had only talked twice. Maya, on the other hand, didn't want to think about it yet, even though she knew the brunette was messing with her in a way she never thought possible. The blonde spent the rest of her shift thinking about the conversation she would have with the doctor and was a little scared to catch herself smiling about it. She never fell in love, didn't think about feelings because it always ended badly. The brunette also had some difficult moments linked to love during her life, but did not allow her past to define her present and much less her future. It was not easy to deal with in this way, but it was the best way she could or she would never be happy. It's just that they say, "Don't wait for the world to stop hurting you to choose happiness." Unfortunately the world won't stop beating you, so you need to learn to fight back.
