We drove around for half an hour or so, having fun with the car and my own handling skill, before settling down a bit. "What did you think?" I asked Lusius.
"It was..." He stopped. "The best. Somehow relaxing but really fun at the same time."
"I'm glad you liked it. What do you say we just take it slow for a while?"
"Sure."
I turned back towards home.
"I didn't realize how much I missed that..." Lusius told me. He almost seemed like he was dreaming.
"Missed what?" I said.
"This." He gestured in front of himself. "Just me and you and a car. Together. Just getting to hang out. I mean, Tails is the best—"
"I agree with you there."
"—but you might have saved my life. I really appreciate that. You changed... everything for me."
I blushed. "You really think so? I can't be that great..."
"You'd be surprised. I think that even if I hadn't been a kid with almost nothing, you would have still been perfect. I love you, Luke."
"I love you too, Snuggles."
It was his turn to go red-faced. "You haven't called me that since I was 10..."
I shrugged, or at least did the best I could while still keeping my hands on the wheel. "I thought it fit the moment."
He gave a soft laugh. "I guess it does."
It was then that I noticed the time. "You want to stop for lunch? We're still a while out from home."
"I don't mind. You go ahead and pick where. You wouldn't have asked if you weren't in the mood for something in particular."
I smiled. "You know me so well."
