That was fun. That was a lot of fun. There's just something about watching one of your own family do so well at something that can't be faked.
It wasn't a long race, maybe an hour and a half, but it was definitely competitive. Luke was right about the tune as well. I could tell that he was really pushing the car to keep up.
It wasn't until the final lap that he really went for the win. He opened up the throttle, and the sound of that supercharged engine overtook almost everything on the track...
...literally. He flew to the front, passing car after car until all that stood between him and the finish was a gleaming blue Ferrari F430. It was a scene straight out of the 1966 Le Mans.
They were coming up on the final stretch, a weaving, twisty section where handling and low-speed acceleration were key. It was an intense fight down to the last hundred feet.
Then, right as they were coming up to the finish line...
Luke hit the brakes. The Ferrari passed him.
The announcer's voice rang out clearly through all the loudspeakers: "And Chuck Mantori in that beautiful F430 leaves Abmis seeing stars! This was a close race, folks. Feline versus feline, supercar versus supercar, but most importantly driver versus driver."
I saw Luke pull off the track and head into the front lot.
