Y/N idly tapped his foot on the ground as he looked at hero schools, he generally wouldn't be picky with any of this. After all it was just his means of becoming a hero, not a decision his whole life depended on. But there was one small problem, after the incident with his quirk. He had been marked in the governments system as legally dead. He has only managed to get this far thanks to a few fake ID's and some fancy lies. But even at a young age, he had known they weren't going to last him forever if he made himself known. Some legal organization would figure him out and probably take him into custody on charges of an unregistered quirk. And just because people tended to hate him; probably villainy as well. All of this leading to the point that, Y/N hadn't really gone to a proper school. Don't be mistaken, he was smart, even more so than your average school kid you could say. Because he didn't waste his time with learning things he was never going to use. If he needed it, he learned it. He never had outside opinions to cloud his own. But yet again, how was he going to apply to any established school, without any prior teaching, or means to apply. They weren't exactly handing out application forms to UA on the streets. Wait, UA, Y/N knew for a fact that most of the bigger establishments were willing to be flexible. They had more power and favoritism with the higher ups, UA specifically was celebrated for teaching most of the heroes that save people today. They had the most chance of getting away with letting Y/N in. But now came the hard part, how was he going to actually make that happen. It's not like he could just walk up to UA, the most prestigious hero school in Japan, and ask. "Hey do you mind doing something a little bit illegal so that I can get into your school with no prior education and fix our corrupt hero society?" Y/N closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, he decided he should probably just take a minuet to rest, maybe a better idea will come to him later.
Y/N walked down the street, turning when he felt like it, not necessarily going anywhere. Until he came across a beach. It was nearly sundown and he decided to watch the sunset on the cluttered beach. Y/N looked at the heaps of trash behind him and a small frown formed on his obstructed face. While looking toward the trash piles, he heard talking. Y/N narrowed his eyes and extended his hand to his large shadow, elongated by the setting sun. The dark mass swirled around his hand, ready to take orders. Y/N's swirled his hand in a flourishing movement as he snapped his fingers, sending the shadow flying at incredible speeds to find the source of the voices. He sensed two people, one large, and one very small. Tuning into the shadowed connection, Y/N couldn't exactly hear what they were talking about, but he was able to get a vague understanding of the topic at hand. He knew he shouldn't be sticking his nose in other people's business. But something about these two intrigued him. He didn't know if it was the power that he sensed from them, or the similarity of it. Shrugging to himself Y/N got up to leave, deciding that he would leave the two to their own business. With his own shadow back at his side and night surely approaching. Y/N began walking home until he felt a small tug at his feet, urging him the other way. Y/N crouched down to his shadow and put a hand to it, allowing for to twist around his arm like a snake.
"Show me, what is it you want me to see?" Y/N whispered to the shadow, his voice rough and dry from lack of usage. He had a tendency to speak to shadows, it's not like they had a conscience. Not even to him they didn't, but they were extensions of his own instincts and emotions. So talking to them felt natural to Y/N, you could say it was another way of controlling his quirk. Allowing the tug of the shadow to lead him, Y/N found himself walking towards where the two people had been. The shadow ceased pulling and Y/N stopped. He heard a loud voice that sounded like, All Might? Y/N's brows knitted it confusion. Wanting to get a better look, Y/N traveled up one of the trash piles. Now that Y/N had the high ground, he could see All Might on a fridge with ropes tied to it. And to Y/N's surprise, standing right there trying to pull the refrigerator, was the green haired boy from the villain attack. All Might was talking about his quirk, more specifically he was talking about passing it on.
So the kid's got All Might in his corner, good to know, he'll most definitely be shooting for UA as well.
All Might continued talking to the boy, telling him he was going to have to clean up the beach for a sort of training. The green haired boy pointed out how much garbage there was on the beach. That it would be nearly impossible for him to clean it all up.
" UA is the hardest hero course to get into, so that means." All Might started.
"That I have to prepare my body for your quirk really fast, UA's exam is in ten months!" The boy finished.
Ten months to train, good to know
All Might held up a collection of papers in front of the boy and began to explain that they were plans for the kids everyday, including training, meals, and even scheduled sleep.
He didn't know why but Y/N was interested with this boy. He quickly traveled home, not wanting to chance being caught this late in the game. As he arrived in his room, Y/N sat on the edge of his bed, pondering the date of the entrance exam. He was most definitely going to have to train even harder. Nothing good ever came out of underestimating opponents. But he would think about his training at a later date. As of now, he hadn't even applied to UA. Y/N closed his eyes and imagined the large school, he had seen it recently on one of his nighttime walks. So it was still easily accessible from his memory. Once his E/C eyes opened again he was in the shadows of the UA building, he had gotten this far but now what. He hasn't ever been inside UA. He contemplated sending a shadow to be his eyes for him, but if any of the hero staff were to spot it, it would probably be seem as an attack on the school. But really at this point Y/N's whole plan could be seen as an attack. After all he was planning to do exactly what he told himself wouldn't work. But hey, you don't know if you don't try. After all it was just his identity and secrets he had spent his whole life keeping safe on the line, no big deal. Y/N's train of sarcastic thoughts was cut short when he saw a little bit of movement out of the corner of his eye. Three people were approaching the gate to the school, one was very loud, one quiet and the other was a bit spastic. They seemed to know each other. Old friends perhaps? None the less they, were his way in. He started memorizing the face of the spastic female. She was quite attractive, it only took Y/N a while to recognize her as Midnight the R-Rated hero.
What could they be doing this early before the entrance exams?
Y/N though to himself, but yet again it was a very big even for the school and they probably had a lot of applications and paperwork to sort out before the exams even started.
The large doors of UA opened for the three heroes and closed not a second after they entered. Talk about tough security. Keeping a close eye on Midnight's shadow, Y/N decided the best time to travel was now. He appeared in a hall with a door in front of him labeled 'Teachers Lounge' Y/N wasted no time blending in this the shadows of the hall, but there weren't many to hide with in the blank hallway. Improvising, Y/N took hold of his shadow and stretch it along the lights on the ceiling, effectively darkening the room just enough for him to blend in. A few stray muffled goodbyes could be heard from the other side of the door. A small, mouse? Stepped out do the door and a final goodbye could be heard, this one catching Y/N's attention
"Have a good day Principal Nezu"
So this is the guy I want to talk to
Y/N once again memorized the looks of the odd rodent. He had entered a room that seemed to be his office. Not knowing how else to do this, he simply traveled into the room, thereafter making no effort to conceal himself. Nezu looked over at the boy that suddenly appeared in his office, he kept his face reasonably collected, but allowed some of his surprise to seep through.
"Hello there, who might you be?" Nezu asked. The question caught Y/N off guard, he expected Nezu to immediately have him caught for trespassing. But he never once let his emotionless face falter. Y/N quickly recovered from his initial surprise and took two of his fingers and tapped them on his chest, then put them to his lips and shook his head. Hoping the Principal would understand his unspoken message.
"Ah, I see." Nezu nodded and took out a pen and paper. "Would this work?" Y/N nodded and took the pen. Still on edge about this whole situation, he was just going to have a nice conversation with a kid who suddenly appeared in his office and then refused to talk directly?
"I know your not a villain." Nezu simply stated. As if he had just read Y/N's mind. On instinct Y/N narrowed his eyes and reached out to nearby shadows, just in case.
" I could tell from how you looked, even with that mask on, eyes can tell a story of their own." Nezu said. "Yours certainly do." Y/N didn't let his guard down as he looked down to the paper in front of him and wrote.
I want to make a deal.
The Principal read over the sheet and looked back to Y/N,
"What sort of deal?"
I get administration to participate in the entrance exams, and I can tell you information that the heroes have been looking for.
Nezu seemed to contemplate the pros and cons for a moment, before asking another question.
"What information exactly?"
Y/N only needed to write one word for Nezu to understand
L/N
Nezu didn't try to cover his surprise, the L/N family disappearance had baffled heroes since it happened. A call had been issued in saying how their house had caught on fire, the firemen were to be sent over there. That is until the caller gasped and cried desperately to send for the heroes. The call dispatcher knew something was very wrong. Once the heroes had arrived, not even minuets later. All that was left of the house and the family who once lived there, was ash. The family was a mother, father and their only son, who had turned four not even a month ago. They say he didn't live long enough to gain his quirk. The only lead that the heroes had, was a trail of scorch that led on for weeks, until one day, it just stopped. Any new information on the case was always welcome, and now that this kid showed up offering the answer they had desperately searched for. Nezu would have thought it was a little to good to be true. But the thing is, the heroes never told anyone about anything but there being a fire and the family dying. None of the public knew about all the controversy behind the case. From the trail of scorched earth, to the lack of remnants found. Even how fast the fire spread and how hot it would have to be to completely incinerate a house in such short time just didn't stack up.
"Pardon if this is rude, but how do I know your not lying?" Nezu posed a valid question, but Y/N had already prepared for this.
Do you have a picture of the family from before the fire?
Nezu nodded and reached into a cabinet full of files, eventually coming to the right one. He pulled out a picture of three people a smiling mother, laughing father. And a child with H/C hair and E/C eyes. Nezu looked up to Y/N just in time to see a look of sorrow cross his face, only to disappear a second later. Nezu was about to ask how this had any relevance. Until Y/N pulled off his mask and hood, revealing H/C hair. His face was a perfectly aged version of the L/N child. The only difference being the many scars that now littered Y/N's face.
"Well, if it isn't L/N Y/N, that is who you are, correct?" Nezu inquired. Y/N simply nodded his head. And put his mask and hood back on.
"Alright, I believe you. Now, how much exactly can you tell me?"
All
"Hmm, well that's rather useful, and all you want in return is admission to our entrance exam here at UA, correct?"
You nod once more.
Deal?
Nezu smiles.
"Well L/N Y/N, you have yourself a deal." As to not waste time Y/N starts writing everything that happend that day.I had just turned four a little while ago, and we were expecting my quirk any time now. I had been playing with my father while my mother cooked dinner and I tried reaching for a pencil, but it was out of my reach. I was about to get up when it came straight to my hand, encased in its own shadow. I looked at the kitchen to see if my mother was using her quirk. But she was still cooking. I yelled for my father and excitedly showed him my new powers, he rushed to the kitchen to tell my mother I inherited her quirk. But then everything started to get hot. My skin crawled as if something was trying to get out. I can't remember the exact moment but after I opened my eyes, all I saw was fire. I ran to the voice of my mother screaming and found both of them under a beam from the ceiling. I tried to lift it but the second I touched it. There was nothing but ash left in my hand. I didn't waste anytime trying to help my parents up. But the same thing happened. All I know what that the house was quickly falling to ash around me, so I ran. For days on end I ran. Because it was my fault. I killed my parents.
Nezu read over Y/N's writing and looked up at the young boy. Y/Ns face was emotions less, but he had to clench his jaw tight in an attempt to keep it as such. Nezu's face had a look of sympathy
"I'm sorr-" he was cut off by an angry growl coming from Y/N.
"Right, you probably don't want my pity do you." Nezu laughed. Y/N tilted his head, confused on how Nezu would know that.
"Your father was a hero, he had the quirk that gave you your fire, he called it Fire Dragon. He often growled when displeased as well. The crawling feeling was your scales, right?" Y/N nodded. "It seems you have not only inherited your fire, but also they dragon aspects of your father as well. Your very interesting L/N. Or would you prefer Y/N?" You nodded once more.
"Well, as you know, you are dangerous Y/N. That means you have to be very careful around your classmates. It seems you have learned to keep your emotions in check, terrifyingly well may I add. You have to be registered in the quirk control system though, I can easily copy your mothers quirk description to your own, as I don't believe that one has mutated like your fathers has. As for registering your fire quirk, may I ask why it isn't active? Can you control it?" Y/N shook his head and took off his jacket, showing the large red tattoo across his arm. On the small corner of available paper space, he wrote.
It seals it away
Nezu nodded in understanding. He had herd of quirks that could seal others away.
"But seals always have to have a way of being broken." Nezu stated "it would be a hazard if you didn't know yours and accidentally broke it."
I know it, if my blood gets on any part of the seal, it makes my quirk like anyone else's. Easy to activate and deactivate.
Nezu clapped his hands
"Alright then, it's decided, Y/N, you are officially accepted into UA." Nezu continued before Y/N could start writing. "Now that I know you exist, you are now me and the other staff's responsibility. With two quirks as dangerous as yours, you are considered a hazard to society. But your quirks can also do a lot of good for the people around you. You will take the entrance exam like everyone else, but don't worry, the best of the best need to keep their eyes on you. So I have already secured you a spot in class 1-A. In a roundabout way you are going to be put in on recommendation by yours truly. You will have the next ten months to train hard and become the best you can be." Nezu paused to look at the clock. "But I think I have wasted enough of your time, now haven't I?" Y/N nodded, and without another word, disappeared in a small cloud of dark matter.Y/N laid on his bed.
I just did exactly what I told myself not to do...and it worked. I got into UA. I'm gonna be a hero.
