Not a Date

"So tell me. What has you in such a bad mood today?" Taehyung asks as he guides us to the very back of the empty ice cream parlor next to the window.

"Who says I'm in a bad mood?" I respond bitterly.

"You did. It's the whole reason why I brought you here on this very intimate outing," he gives me a charming smile as he gives another lick to his ice cream cone. "In some cases some might even call this a date."

I scoff in response. "This is not a date, and you brought me here because you almost killed me. Anyways, even if it was a date, I don't see what's so romantic about taking someone out for ice cream in the middle of winter."

"See it is exactly why its winter that makes it romantic," he replies and I raise my eyebrow waiting for him to elaborate. "People choose to go out for coffee and hot chocolate around this time, because it's the most natural response due to the weather," he starts explaining. "Sounds nice doesn't it? Keeping warm with a significant other."

"So you're contradicting yourself and basically saying that a coffee date would've been more romantic?" I mock biting into my cone.

"No, I didn't. I said it sounds nice."

"Stop trying to play mind tricks and cut to the chase, will you?"

"You're so impatient, Seokjin, but you seem like a nice person despite your crappy attitude so, I'll take you out of your misery," Tae takes one last bite of his cone and wipes the crumbs off his fingers with a nearby napkin and continues. "It is nice to go for coffee with someone, but when you think about it, everyone is out for coffee and hot chocolate at this time. Coffee shops are full, and stocking up on orders which leads to getting your beverage much later than you hoped for. What you thought would be romantic turns into getting dibs on a shitty table, that you didn't want but had to conform with because it was the last one available. You want to talk freely but at the same time having a lot of people around you takes away from the intimacy of two people being able to talk about whatever they want without having others listening into their conversation. An ice cream shop however..."

"Is most likely empty this time of the year because everyone is overcrowding coffee houses," I finish for him.

"Exactly. Here we are you and I with the best table in the whole place. With no worries of anyone interrupting our conversation or trying to tune into our date," he inches his hand slowly towards mine and rubs my knuckles with his thumb, "if I decide to maybe reach across the table for your hand."

I know my ears and cheeks have turned a shade of red at this point. "This is not a date," I whisper.

"But it is. I invited you somewhere and paid for your treat, plus we're currently involved in a conversation considered a little too meaningful to be just between strangers."

"Wow you really are a hopeless romantic, huh," I mock pulling my hand away from him.

"What can I say? I love the idea love. I believe that there should be someone I'm meant to be with. Unfortunately I just haven't met him yet."

"Sorry to break it to you, Taehyung, but you're not going to. You should just settle on a person who can moderately put up with you and with any luck will wait at least 24 hours after being married to you before they cheat on you with the reception manager in charge of your wedding."

He teasingly put his hand over his heart faking an expression of hurt, "ouch. You speaking by experience by any chance?"

"Not my experience, thankfully. I do believe your head is way up in the clouds. Maybe that's why you haven't found this supposed person you're supposed to end up with. You're too busy imagining unrealistic scenarios that you're missing the bigger picture."

"Which is..?"

"Beats me. I don't even try to look for it. I know it'll just end in disappointment, " I answer.

Taehyung sits back in his chair and rubs his chin as he contemplates what I've just said. "So my idea of love is in unrealistic while yours is none existent. Interesting." He continues looking up towards a ceiling until his eyes light up as if he made the biggest discovery in his life. "It's perfect!" he shouts. "My head is in the clouds and you're a stick in the mud."

"I don't see your point," I glare to show that I wasn't fond of his comment.

"I have a proposition for you. That includes you and I continuing this date-"

"Not a date," I interrupt.

"Fine whatever you want to call it. Now let me finish. Let's continue this and get to know each other for the rest of the night. I will tell you all the good things that come with being in love and you can teach me all the bad ones. With enough conversations we will even each other out. My relationships fail because I expect them to be perfect because it's what I'm used to seeing from others, but if I learn the imperfections of them then maybe I can overlook some things that are not a big deal." He explains with the enthusiasm of a child reading their Christmas wishlist.

"And what makes you think I'll accept. What am I getting out of it?"

"I'll teach you how good life can be when you find the love of your life. I have stories of people in my life who are living it up with their significant other."

"I think I'll pass on your oh so 'generous' offer," I reply.

Taehyung's face falls and automatically shows me puppy eyes followed by a pouting lip. "Please? It'll be my treat. I'll pay fore everything, and I promise that once the night is over we can walk away as if nothing happened and we don't know each other. We'll be complete strangers."

I look at him while analyzing his offer. I really don't care for his problems in love or what he has to say to change my mind in it, but I really don't want to go back home and have Yoongi lecture me for another hour over the same thing. He's also paying for the entire outing which means free food and I'm getting really hungry.

"Fine, we'll continue the date, but just know that I eat a lot," I warn to which he laughs.

Like I've said in the first chapter, the story won't be long. I'm going to try to keep it between 15-20 chapters. I'm also going to try to update it more often. I hope you all enjoy it💜
