She was nuzzled into him. Her injuries had healed but a scar left upon her back was evidence enough of the tragedy endured.
"If I said I loved you, would you believe me?" Luke whispered into her hair.
"I'd tell you to shut up and that you can't love me that way."
"I'll show you."
He left her side, determined to show her his feelings. He left the flat, making sure to lock the multiple secures on the front door. He jogged to the flower store down the road and bought a bouquet of flowers, her favourites.
**********She wondered where he was. He had been gone so long as she was beginning to get anxious. The door opening and his voice greeting her reassured her that he was fine and so was she. His quiffed up brown hair showed round the doorframe and the rest of his face came into view.
"You. Stay." He instructed, making her giggle.
**********"Lav, come in here."
She crawled from her seat on the bed. She had tidied up her hair and applied a little makeup. She was wearing Luke's Green Day T-shirt but he said she looked...
"Beautiful".
She looked around in awe. Daisies lined the room along with sweet smelling candles. He was stood in the middle of the floor, soft music playing in the background. She knew this song. It was Sam Smith. Luke was singing to her. The words flowed from his mouth with utter ease and she couldn't deny the way his eyes burned into her and the way his voice made her heart flip. She felt a stray tear tumble from her eye and glide down her cheek. His eyes showed sincerity and adoration, likely mirroring her own gaze. She could feel it; the protection. It scared her. She knew she could let it happen.
"Baby?" Luke whispered.
"Yeah?" She answered.
"Do you believe me now?"
She nodded. She didn't want to but it was obvious. The way he looked at her, love entertwined with lust. His hand spread warmth up her waist, sending goosebumps with it. She was panicking inside but on the outside she was the picture of contementment. He was smiling, dimples on show. Her heart began to pound harder as his lips pressed to hers. It held deeper meaning and promise, yet Luke kept it simple; a light peck.
"Luke..." She muttered.
"Please. Don't speak." He pleaded.
He wanted to keep the silence for just a while longer. He knew what she was thinking. She was going to run. He needed her to stay. After her prolonged absence... he wasn't sure he could bear being without her. Not again. They continued to dance as the song changed. It was a slow song and Luke believed that it was called Make It To Me.
"Baby, I know you're scared but please give us a chance. I promise that we can take it slow. It'll be different to before."
"That's what scares me. Luke, I want to try but I don't want to get hurt..."
"Give it time and we can see. I won't hurt you."
With that, he kissed her with a fevor that she hadn't felt before. She could feel his heart pounding against his chest, matching rhythm with her own. The action was heated but meaningful. His arousal was evident and she looked into his now almost black eyes. He winked at her before taking her to the bedroom. They made love slowly and lost themselves in each other, holding onto the feelings evident.
"I love you." He whispered into her slightly damp hair.
She didn't reply. She didn't have to. He had felt it all during their lovemaking. He knew how she felt. He would just have to wait for her to say it. She was in his arms, where he had wanted her to be. She was happy here. His toned arms were wrapped around her in a protective manner and she knew she was safe in that moment. Even though she doubted it would last, she was willing to try. She knew what to do if she got hurt.
He knew what she would do. He knew she would leave and not take a moment to turn back and consider him. He would be discarded like a piece of trash. He knew. She was worth the risk. The way the halo of lilac silk flowing from her head framed her pale face, it melted his heart. He loved her.
She loved him.
