Chapter 3 (ep.2)

My alarm went off at 5.30 and I ground remembering the events of last night, I got dressed quickly and grabbed a muesli bar , as I do most mornings I peered into the boys room and saw them both sleeping on there peacefully I closed the door and headed to the diner. I looked at my phone saw a couple notifications clicking one that had an unknown known

Hey Harper, Its's Rafe

I was just wondering how you were doing after last night. I know it must have been hard for you

If you want to talk at all over lunch or something that would be nice. Let me know

Hey Rafe

I'm okay, lunch would be nice I can do today after work at the diner and before babysitting.

I sent the text message while walking wondering how Rafe Cameron got my number, It felt good though finally talking to someone about her life and how she was actually doing. I made it to the diner and saw Jake, 'Hey Jake, how's Vanessa (wife) and Charli (baby)', 'They are pretty good Harps, Charli's just turned to months' , 'No way' i said shocked ' she's growing up so fast, you look tired though I can look after her one night if you and Vanessa need a break'. He looked at me and said 'I might actually take you up on that cause Vanessa and I have our 5 year anniversary coming up and i wanted to take her to Chapel Hill because that is where we met but you know we both don't have any family to look after Charli for the night'. I smiled and said 'Five years that so sweet, let me know if you do and i'll open up my schedule', we continued to chat until I had my break. I went to the break down and sat down sinking into the comfortable and grabbed my phone out of my pocket to see that Rafe had texted me back about lunch plans

Rafe

Yeah, sure

I'll pick you up after your shift.

What time do you finish?

Me

I finish at 12

See you them!

I slid my phone bag into my pocket and started to eat, I was starving, I hadn't eaten anything this morning and I could feel my tummy rumbling. After my break ended I worked out to see the diner now filled up with people, you'd think that after a hurricane everybody would stay home, not on Outer Banks, I guess people gotta eat somewhere. The rest of the shift went by quickly except for a kids who threw all their food on the ground, their parents looked tired with six kids hanging off them. With the end of my shift looming was I was getting more exited, I enjoyed talking to Rafe he listened and said just the right things to make me feel better. When the clock read 12:00, I finished up my last couple of orders and gave Jake a hug and told him to text me about babysitting Charli. I got changed into the clothes that had intended to wear for baby-sitting. It was an olive green ruffle skirt with just a plain white t shirt, I slipped on my old shoes converse of course and walked out the store.

I saw Rafe sitting in his car, the same one he picked me up in only a few nights ago, I went up to the passenger seat door grinning, 'hey rafe' I said 'Hi Harps'. I jumped into the car and I and looked at him 'so where are we going' I asked, he looked at me and replied 'I was thinking the wreck, but its up too you', 'oh I love the wreck' I said and continues 'that's the place Kiara's dad owns the food there is amazing, and her parents are the nicest people ever'. We chatted all the way to the Wreck Rafe explained to me how this morning Sarah had pretended to get electrocuted, we hopped out the car and I laughed and said 'Topper's officially Sarah's bitch' he laughed and proceeded to say 'That's exactly what I said, Topper was not happy cause he was telling me after that Wheezie told him that  she had cheated on all her boyfriends before and that he was next'. I was shocked 'I never thought Sarah would be a cheat on anyone, I thought she was the pogue princess, every kook loves her' and I looked at him and he said 'that exactly what my father thinks he only cares about her' he sighed and we walked into the Wreck 'Hi Mr Carrera, how are you' he smiled also confused with my company 'I'm good thank you, what would you guys like'?'. We ordered and Rafe payed winning the argument about who was gonna pay, and we sat down at a table. He looked at me with his blue eyes staring into my brown ones 'So ... uh how's John B after last night you know... the whole fight thing' our food came while he was speaking, 'John B's fine I think I haven't talked to him since last night, he looked like he'll have a black eye but nothing to serious which is good.' I answered him 'how's Topper?, I feel really bad about what JJ did with the whole gun thing' I added on quickly. ' He's not too bad only a couple of small bruises, he actually told me to thank you for him and apologises', 'Why' I looked at him inquisitively, 'You saved him basically you calmed JJ down and then let him get away, he felt bad for starting the fight after seeing how much it affected you' he looked into my eyes 'Why do you think the fight started?' he added, I after a mouthful of my food and thought and once I finished I said ' JJ told me it was something about Sarah but at the end of the day its just boy's being boys, Kook's vs Pogues's, same old same old' he gave him a small smile. We finished our food talking about his life how he dropped out of college and what he was going to do now, and about what I wanted to be in the future. 'Alright' I looked at my watch 'I better get going it'll take me about half an hour to walk to baby-sitting' he looked and smirked 'You really think I'm going to let you walk Harper, what kind of man would I be' I laughed and we walked back to the car. He dropped me off at the Rogers another family I babysit occasionally with 2 teenage girls, who were always a laugh. He smiled as he looked out the window at me 'I had a really good time today, Do you want me to pick you up when you're done and take you home' he said, I declined his offer insisting that he had already done so much to help me. He drove off as I walked up to the Rogers house with a smile across my face.
