Thank you once again for reading my book, I appreciate it! Don't forget to comment and vote ;)
The attached photo is kinda like a moodboard/inspiration for Nyeema. I made this using pics off of pinterest, so if you know the @ lmk and I'll give credit! Of course, you can imagine her however you like, but this is just how I capture her energy.
Let me know if you like the idea and I will attach more inspos for characters as the book goes on :)
Also, I would just like to point out, the first few chapters of this book are a little rough, but trust me everything will fall into place as the chapters go on! I'm planning on editing the first few chapters when the book is complete :)
01: going public
The sweltering heat washed me in a coat of sweat as my conscious began to leave dream-land. In utter frustration, I kicked off the pink comforter off of my clammy legs with a huff, only to let my body fall back onto the rock-hard mattress. Needless to say, I was not used to having no A/C and tacky-ass princess covers that previously belonged to my little cousins.
Yes, I was gifted with hand-me-downs from my little cousins.
I grudgingly sit up, wiping the crust from my crusty ass eyes, and step onto the cold wooden floor before quickly retracting my feet.
Shit. I miss my plush carpeting so fucking bad.
I sigh dramatically, roll my eyes, and start to get ready for my day.
First day of public school. Yay, I'm so fucking excited.
My room, or shall I say my grandparents ex-room which was quickly thrown together to suit a 16-year-old, consists of dingy tan walls and ornamental furniture. It was small, and it order to make it seem more at home for lil ol' me, bright ass pink butterfly decor from my little cousins was strung along the surfaces.
Not that I was complaining, I was so completely grateful for my grandparents allowing me to stay here after the death of my mother a few months ago. But, that doesn't mean I'm going into this expecting unicorns and rainbows. Well, other than the decor.
It was a huge change from the large colonial home me, my brothers, and my dear mother grew up in.
Now, I share a 2 bedroom fixer-upper with my grandparents, little brothers, and my older cousin.
Thank the fucking lord that I'm the only girl out of us kids and I'm allowed to have my own room. My little twin brothers, Jair and Zyaire, and my big cousin Major share the other room, and my grandparents, bless their hearts, sleep on the couches in the front room.
Instead of the gated community I resided in for 15 years, I was living in the heart of the worst neighborhood in the city. Fucking fantastic. I've gone to private school for the entirety of my school career, and I was not excited about the change.
Not to generalize, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn't like highschool kids in general, and now I was going into brand new fucking territory. Fuck this.
After showering, I get myself ready the rest of the way and head out to the kitchen. I had medium-sized boxbraids in my hair that ran down to my waist, a fitted white long sleeve crop-top, and loose ripped jeans. After years of ugly ass catholic school uniforms, I was more than happy to wear actual fucking clothes. That's literally the only positive to going to this new school.
