part one : chapter nine
“this is the worst idea ever.”
luke and michael were standing outside, waiting for calum, both of them freezing their asses off.
“no it’s not,” michael complained. “if calum would hurry up, then this wouldn’t be so shit.”
calum stepped onto the porch, eight boxes of chinese food piled in his arms. he got over to luke and michael, the stack teetering back and forth.
“here.” he dumped them on the concrete of their driveway.
michael picked up a box and opened it, pulling out a spring roll. “do we have enough?”
luke shrugged. “i don’t know. but i always had a few left over from when i ordered them, so it seems likely. and if not, we can use noodles.”
michael nodded and pulled out his phone, checking the time. “okay. have you ordered yet?”
luke shook his head. “i didn’t know how much time we would need.”
“do that now and calum and i will get started.”
calum frowned. “i never agreed to this.”
“calum, please?” michael asked. “the sooner luke does this, the sooner we can stop eating chinese food for every other meal.”
“fine. i’ll help.”
the two boys opened up boxes and boxes of spring rolls as luke ordered chinese food. luke came back over and surveyed the scene before joining in.
fifteen minutes later, the boys were finished and luke sent michael and calum inside so he could do it himself. he sat at the top of the driveway, his back pressed against the garage door. he sat there for three minutes, scrolling through twitter on his phone, before he heard a car rounding the corner of the street. he jumped up, nearly falling down his slightly ramped driveway, and stowing his phone in his jacket pocket.
he recognized willow’s car and started to get nervous. he watched as she pulled up, not even glancing his way. she stopped the engine, got out of the car, taking a bag of chinese food with her, then finally looked up and saw luke.
she frowned and called, “what are you doing?”
luke didn’t answer, but simply motioned to the cement in front of him.
willow couldn’t see due to her height and the height of her car, so she walked around the back and stepped onto the sidewalk to see michael, calum, and luke’s creation.
“what is this?” she asked.
on the driveway in front of her, there were over fifty spring rolls laid out, spelling out:
“w -
will u d8 me
- l”
willow started laughing.
luke threw his arms out. “don’t just laugh,” he said, exasperated. “tell me your answer.”
willow nodded, unable to speak because of her laughter.
“is that a yes?”
willow gained control of herself. “yes, you idiot. it’s a yes.”
luke ran through the spring rolls, and stopped in front of willow, who had finally stopped giggling. “can i kiss you?” he asked.
she smiled and made the first move, pressing her lips to luke’s.
“i can’t believe you asked me out with spring rolls.”
“well, you are a chinese delivery girl.”
