Running Away

Chapter 4: In Love

The next morning Brittany woke up in the guest bedroom to the sounds of birds chirping. She opened up the curtains and let the sunlight pour through the room. Happiness filled Brittany's heart as she looked at the room of sun sparkle. For a while she just laid there thinking of her new life she had ahead of her. Then Brittany decided to take a shower. She got clothes and locked the door.

She heard something fall with a loud crash.

"Probably clumsy Colten" she thought as she chuckled to herself.

When she got out Colten's mom was yelling at him and he was picking up broken pieces of glass.

"You woke me up and broke my favorite vase" Colten's mom yelled.

"It's not my fault you sleep in to ten" he snapped back.

"That's it" she screamed "You're grounded for two weeks".

Colten stormed off to his room and Brittany just awkwardly stood there.

"Sorry, about that Brittany" Colten's mom said.

"That's okay" she replied.

After Brittany her breakfast, dried her hair, straightened her hair, and put on makeup, she decided to go check on Colten because she hadn't saw him all day.

She knocked on the door. No answer.

"Colten it's me" she said while absentmindedly playing with a piece of hair.

"What's the secret word" Colten asked talking like a three year old.

"I don't know" she answered.

"Then you can't come in" he said.

"Come on Colten, your acting like a three year old" she complained.

"No I'm not" he replied.

"Yes you are" she fought back.

"No"

"Yes"

"No"

"Yes"

"Yes" he said trying to trick her.

"Yes" she repeated.

"Darn it" he whined "I was trying to trick you".

Brittany laughed and Colten opened the door pouting.

"Is Colten sad that he didn't trick me" Brittany mocked smiling.

"No" Colten said.

They both laughed until it hurt. They didn't even know what they were laughing at after a while. Then suddenly Colten put on some weird song about butterflies and started rolling on the ground like a weirdo. Brittany fell to the ground laughing. Colten tried to do a handstand but he fell.

"That hurt" he whined.

Brittany just laughed.

Brittany had never been so happy in her life. But she had this feeling. She felt this tingly feeling in her heart. No matter what she did she would always end up being happy. Then she realized that it's him. She realized the tingly feeling in her heart is love. She smiled to herself and started to do the disco with Colten, laughing every time he messed up.

They both laughed and danced around until they were tired. Then they both fell on the bed and listened to the silence fill the room.

Brittany never had realized before that moment that laughter was music to her ears, that silence was a song, and that the birds chirping was the worlds way of telling her to keep going.
