Running Away

Chapter 9: Meghan

She woke up to Colten's voice.

"Brittany wake up it's over"

Brittany rubbed her eyes and looked up at Colten. He gently tucked a piece of hair behind Brittany's ear and kissed her. It was a short kiss but it sent fireworks through Brittany's body.

Colten helped her up.

"Any damage" Brittany asked.

Colten didn't answer, he just lead her outside. Their house was completely fine.

"I don't see any damage" Brittany said.

"We were lucky" Colten explained "The tornado missed us".

Brittany nodded.

Colten lead Brittany down the gravel road. Brittany looked at Colten. He didn't look like the Colten she knew. His face was all tensed up, it was usually calm and relaxed. His eyes that were usually a beautiful bright blue had turned gray and were filled with anger. Brittany sighed and ran a hand through her long blonde hair. Something was not right here and Brittany knew it.

After walking for a good ten minutes Colten stopped. Brittany took her eyes off the sky and looked at the scene ahead of her. Houses were destroyed. Items were scattered. Valuables were destroyed.

"This is horrible" Brittany said.

"I know" Colten said. "So many families have been left without houses".

"I wish we could do something" Brittany said sighing.

"We can" Colten said, as a smile tugged his lips "We are taking in a family."

Brittany smiled, "That's wonderful."

"Let's go back to the house" Colten suggested "The family will be there soon."

"Okay" Brittany agreed.

They went back to Colten's house and made some lunch. They sat in silence as they ate lunch until they heard a knock on the door.

Colten and Brittany opened the door. It was the family that would be living in the house. A man and woman that both had brown hair stood there. They looked to be in their forties stood there. They had one daughter. She had brown hair and the darkest blue eyes Brittany had ever saw. She was pretty but she was completely covered in makeup. She flashed a flirtatious smile at Colten. Jealousy filled Brittany but she decided to let it go.

"Hi" the girl said batting her eyelashes at Colten "I'm Meghan."

"Hey I'm Colten, this is my mom and my girlfriend Brittany" Colten spoke putting an emphasis on girlfriend.

Meghan's smile fell a little when Colten said girlfriend.

"Come in" Colten's mom said. She explained that Meghan would have to sleep on the couch and that her parents, Judy and Jim would sleep in the second guest bedroom.

Judy and Jim went to get unpacked and Colten's mom went upstairs leaving Colten, Brittany, and Meghan alone.

Meghan walked over and basically pushed her way between Colten and Brittany.

"The nerve of this girl" Brittany thought.

Colten quickly grabbed Brittany's hand and pulled her to him. Meghan glared at Brittany and stormed out of the room.

"I don't like her" Colten promised.

Brittany smiled and replied "I know you don't."

"She wears way too much makeup" Colten paused and added "probably because she looks ugly without it".

Brittany chuckled and Colten continued "She seems like a snob and you are so much prettier than her."

Brittany smiled and kissed Colten. She hoped this girl would stay away from Colten but she knew she probably wouldn't.
