She found herself sobbing in his arms. He held her just for a moment before setting her back down. No pity in his eyes. That's what she loved about him.
"I missed you, Colten" she admitted
Colten replied smiling, "I bet I missed you more"
Colten's mischievous grin was replaced with a more serious look as he asked "What happened".
"I ran away" Brittany answered
She looked up at the sky and Colten smiled.
"They always have been your hope" he said
Colten took her arm and brought her inside where his mom greeted Brittany and insisted that she stay in the guest bedroom.
Brittany laid on the ground of the living room. Sun poured through the windows painting the room with light. Brittany looked out the window and saw that white beautiful clouds now decorated the sky. She smiled and watched the clouds slowly drift off into the distance.
She felt Colten grab her from behind. He put his hand over her eyes.
"What are you doing" Brittany shouted between laughter.
"It's a surprise" he shouted.
He carried her upstairs and into a room.
"You can open them" Colten said removing his hand from her eyes.
Brittany looked at the room in amazement. The room was covered with beautiful white puffy clouds. They reminded Brittany of the happiness in her life. They reminded her of hope. No one could take away her hope
"They are my hope too" Colten said.
"And look there is us" Colten said as he pointed to a spot on the wall.
There were two beautiful doves flying together. Sunlight shined through the window right on that spot making the doves sparkle.
"Did you paint this all" Brittany asked
"Yes" Colten replied, "it helped me remember you".
"It's beautiful" Brittany said
Brittany rested her head on Colten's shoulder as her eyes drifted back to the two doves. She closed her eyes and just as she was almost asleep she realized something.
Colten is her wind.
