how to fix common character cliches

1. Percy is charming and falls in love with MC as soon as she appears at Camp Half-Blood

Like I addressed in a previous chapter, Percy is not charming. I couldn't care less if he falls in love with her, I'm all about OC ships. What you should not do, is make him immediately recognize the feelings and ask her out, get married, blah blah unicorns smiley rainbows. Make him struggle to recognize, make him isolate himself from her in a desperate attempt to figure out the feelings. Make him realistic. Don't massacre his character.

2. Annabeth is a complete barbarian

I've addressed this, but this is something people might struggle with. To combat this: have your character do something small for her. It could be as small as helping her up or handing her plate to her. Make Annabeth a decent person, or even have her do something for MC. This should especially be handy if your character is an Athena kid. If you're still having a hard time, look up a quick character summary of Annabeth, look at her good qualities, and amplify those. Soon, you'll learn her character and it'll be much easier.

3. Jason is an emotionless brick (heh, b r i c k)

More often than not, Jason just stands there and stares at whatever's happening, occasionally summoning the wind or lightning. You have to understand: Jason is a person. He feels things like any other character. Sure, he can come across as serious at times, but he's kind-hearted and a genuinely empathetic person. Also, make sure he gets knocked out at some point (just kidding, do what you want).

4. WHERE DID GROVER AND CHIRON GO CAMP IS FALLING INTO OBLIVION HELP

I rarely ever see Grover or Chiron in these stories. I want a fanfiction about Chiron teaching older heroes or Grover leading Thalia, Annabeth, and Luke to Camp Half-Blood. Nobody ever talks about Chiron and Grover is practically invisible. It's really sad because Chiron is a very important part of Camp and he keeps it from going to Tartarus.

5. Piper the fangirl (M Y  E Y E S)

All Piper does is ship everyone else and do makeup. What the Hel happened to inner beauty and grace? Piper is a great character and has the potential to become your MC's friend. She's helped the Seven so many times throughout the series, everybody would be dead if not for Piper. (Probably.) Make her help MC practice dueling, or give her some tips on washing her hair to the maximum.

6. Hazel and Frank??? Who are they??

Why would you forget about two of the coolest characters in the books? Frank is a literal shapeshifter. COME ON. That is my straight-up favorite power in the entire universe. Hazel is a modern-day "time traveler"! Do you know how much Hazel would help me in school when we study that? Add them in!

7. Leo the annoying little tool

Leo is one of the best and most iconic characters in the books. In fanfictions, there are two spectrums that he's on:
Number one, the kid who exists solely to invent tools to help MC and make the most annoying jokes ever...
Number two, MC's tool for making out who has no clear purpose other than that.
That's it. That's Leo's entire existence. He never even puts a taco in anybody's shoes once. I'm so disappointed. Come up with some jokes for him! COME ON!

Anyway, that's all for today. Cya!
