CHAPTER TEN

I'm in the lush green valley again. This time I was in a pair of denim cutoff shorts and a loose white camisole. My blonde hair, falling around my shoulders tousled by the light breeze. The feel of it against my bare legs like a caress raising goosebumps on the exposed skin as the absence of pain heightens my senses. It was nice to breathe easy for the first time since Tom had stomped on me. I stretched up high, sighing with pleasure at the lack of resistance as I tested my fully healed muscles. I could get used to this.

Deciding to explore, I began to follow the land down hill, the glimmer of a lake enticing me forward. The shimmer, bringing back echoes of memories, reminding me of fun, happy times without actually remembering swimming here.

A small crooked dock, stretched from the bank out into the water looking far less sturdier than it actually was when I stepped onto it.

Walking to the end, I plonked myself down and let my bare feet dangle into the cool and refreshing water below. I sighed happily as the sun heated my back., tickling the skin with it's rays.

Lost in thought, I didn't notice the shadow blocking out of the sun until I began to shiver from the lack of heat. Turning to curse the cloud that was spoiling my fun; I squeaked when the cloud turned out to be the shaded shape of a man standing over me. A different kind of heat filled me in the sun's absence. This one of comfort and familiarity.

"Hey!" I acknowledged him, his shoulders slumping worried me that I had upset him somehow. "Is everything okay?"

The shadow seemed to shake himself out of his disappointment before sitting beside me on the dock, mimicking my position with his feet in the water.

"It's so beautiful here," I looked up to the shadow to see him nodding. His hand lifted to my face, stopping just a breaths distance away from my cheek. A faint electric buzz, filling the space in the tiny gap. Second guessing his decision to touch me, he hesitantly pulled his hand back, placing it in his lap as nervously fiddled with his fingers. Was he nervous to touch me?

Before losing my nerve, I reached out, wrapping my hand around his before pulling into my lap. The last time I touched one of them I woke up but somehow, this just felt... Different. More real.

His hand returned my squeeze as I stared down at our entangled fingers. The tingle from his touch returning and spreading to other parts of my body. Looking through my eyelashes, I tried to give him a shy smile, only for it to fall from my face as my jaw hit the floor.

The gray shadow began to change before my eyes. Where he was a gray cloud, absorbing the light around him only moments ago; was now shimmering as the light kissed his silhouette, reflecting light back , giving him more definition.

He must've mistaken the awe of my face for fear as he angled his body towards me, cupping my face in his hands as he searched my face for answers. But I was struck dumb as I watched more defining features filled his face until I was staring into familiar metallic blue eyes.

"Caleb!" I sucked in on a gasp, causing him to rear back with shock "Is that really you?"

"You can see me?" he asked quietly at first, his voice gaining power with every word spoken as if someone was turning up the volume.

"Caleb!" I squealed before launching myself into his arms. He didn't hesitate as he caught me and wrapped his arms round me in a tight hug, stopping me from slipping off of his lap and heading straight for the water.

Wrapping my legs around his waist and using them as leverage I pushed myself up so my lips could meet his. His hand went into my hair, pulling my head back a little bit so he could look into my eyes. "I can't believe this is finally happening."
