"It was horrible. And then he had the nerve to ask me for my number." I vented to my boyfriend, Mason as my head laid on his chest.

"Well, did you tell him you had a boyfriend." He asked.

"Yeah- and when I did, he told m-" I cut myself off, realizing that maybe I was making tonight's encounter into a bigger deal than it needed to be. I mean, I didn't want to worry Mason about something that he shouldn't.

"He what?" Mason shifted up, making me lift my head off of him.

"Nothing- I forgot." I shook my head.

"Ella, tell me." Oh great, now he does sound worried. Ugh, why did I even bring it up to begin with.

"He said something about us not dating anymore."

Mason stared at me for a sec. A troubled and confused expression covering his face.

"What the hell?" He started "Im gonna take and pick you up from work tomorrow. Just in case this guy think about coming up to you again."

I smiled. Mason was always so sweet and kind. Nothing like the immature boys I dated in high school. He would never forget to respect my decisions and keep my best interests at heart.

We met through mutual friends last year and hit it off ever since then. He was there for me through out all the hardships with my parents and just everything else in between.

"Okay." I answered , looking back up at him. "Now, can we please go to sleep? I have an early shift tomorrow." I shyly pull the blanket over myself. He let out a light chuckle at my silly behavior and turned off the lights.

But, to be honest... I really just couldn't look at Mason properly without the image of Noah's dark eyes staring at me constantly repeating in my head.

And that's all I could see. For the rest of the night.

—— Next Day ——

"You got everything?" Mason, questioned as he parked next to the diner.

"Yeah, think so." I reply with a quick kiss, closing the car door shut I give him a warm smile before walking away.

"Ella, oh good, you're here!" Cindy rushes up to me. She looked stressed out with her untamed hair and dark under eye bags.

"Yeah, I am. A-are you good, Cindy." I give here a concerned look.

"No, I'm absolutely not! Your friend Lisa decided not to show up for her shift this morning, leaving me to do all the work."

Lisa? Not showing up to work? That doesn't sound like her.

"Um, do you want me to call her-." I ask, turning to my bag to grab my phone.

"No, it's fine." She cuts me off." Just hurry up and get dressed. Table six needs their order taken."

I nod my head in affirmation, and make my way to get changed.

—- Later that day —-

I called Lisa an hour ago during my brake, and no answer. I even sent her a few text messages, asking where she was. I had a bad feeling about this.

I heard a pair of heels clicking agents the hardwood floor, coming closer towards me.

"Are you Ella?" She had on a red jacket with matching lipstick. "Yeah, that's me." I replied.

Just as I was about to ask her who she was, the strange girl pulls out a note from her coat and slides it to me on the counter.

I pick it up and watch her walk away.

What the hell?

Unfolding the pice of paper, it read.

My dearest Ella, I hope you use the time you have left by spending it with friends and family, because in time, we will soon be together. I promise.

N. C

My eyes widen as I finish the note, dropping it from my hand I rushed to grab my bag and make a phone call.

"Hello?"

"Mason, c-can you pick me up."

———-

"Ella, it's okay- you're gonna be okay. They will get this guy- I promise."

I was shaking. Mason was trying to ease me with his reassuring words. And as much as I wanted to relax, I just couldn't.

"So, you said that you may know who wrote this note, Miss?"

It turns out, Cindy hadn't changed the diner's security cameras since months ago, so we couldn't even get footage of the the mystery girl.

"I-I'm not sure it's him but-" my words get cut off from a lump in my throat, making me choke up a sob.

"It's alright, babe. You can tell him." Mason, grips my hand a little tighter for support.

And so I did. I told the officer everything
about... Noah.

—— A Week Later ——

Lisa still hadn't shown up to work. I told the police officer about her as well when I went back to the station earlier last week for a follow up on the investigation.

I just hope she's not involved in all of this, but for some reason I felt like there was no other explanation.

***Ring***

I look over to my left and see a girl walking into the diner, and the more I looked at her, the more familiar she seemed.

I watched her order a coffee from a far and quickly walked out. Then it hit me.

Oh my god

That was the same girl who gave me the letter.

I put down whatever I was working with, and followed her out the restaurant.

"Hey, wait!" I called out. She turned her head slightly back to look at me, and then ran.
