Kat's heart raced even faster as the huge creature roared again and charged forward, it's head bent so its horns could gouge into their skin. Kat immediately ran out of it's way, not wanting to be in its path of destruction. She felt something brush against her hind legs as she ran and she looked over her shoulder to see the creature still charging forward.
It came to a halt, whipped around, locked eyes on her, and roared again.
Shit.
She saw Savannah running in the opposite direction out of her peripheral vision just as the beast started to charge forward again.
She whirled around and started running away, running as fast as the demons at hell's gate, having no intention of becoming a strange, mutant bear with horn's dinner.
She raced through the woods and could hear the pounding footsteps of the beast behind her. It was fast despite its size, and was slowly gaining up on her.
She picked up speed even though her legs were burning, her heart thumping against her chest like a drum. She leapt over a log and kept going.
The beast was still right behind her, though it was starting to slow down.
Then it happened.
One of her paws caught on a tree root. She lost her balance, fell hard to the ground, and slid forward a few feet, the air whooshing from her lungs.
Before she could even register what happened, the beast had gained up on her. It reached down and clamped its teeth around her hind legs, lifted her from the ground, and threw her several feet into the air.
She felt herself being tossed into the air then her stomach dropped as the inevitable fall occurred. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to brace herself for the pain, when she hit the ground with a hard thud.
The air once again left her lungs as pain coursed through her body. She thought she heard a few cracks and she whimpered in pain, knowing she probably had a few broken bones.
She heard the pounding footsteps again, and she struggled to get to her feet, but it was there before she could even get her wits about her.
It was soon in front of her and had its paw raised as though preparing to strike.
A black blur suddenly leapt up and Kat saw it was Savannah. She clamped her teeth around the creature's bear muzzle. The bear roared and started flinging its head to try to fling her off, but Savannah wasn't budging.
The creature was stepping around wildly as it tried to fling her off, but Savannah kept her teeth clamped on its muzzle, refusing to budge.
The creature accidentally backed into the tree. The force was strong enough to cause the tree to tip over and fall to the ground. The ground shook violently from the fall, causing Kat to stumble a little bit before regaining her footing.
Finally, Savannah released her grip on the creature's muzzle, dropped to the ground, and got out of the creature's dodge. The creature let out sounds of pain as blood streamed down its neck.
Kat and Savannah took advantage and started running again, but soon the pounding footsteps were running after them, and it was starting to gain up on them again.
The sound of running water reached Kat's ears and a plan started to form. She yipped at Savannah and started to run left where she heard the water. Savannah followed her with no hesitation.
