Savannah stared at her grandfather in shock; she had no idea that he'd been following her and mentally kicked herself for not being more aware of her surroundings.

Hugo stalked forward, his face pinched with anger. "So now my own granddaughter, my blood, is abandoning me now?"

Her heart sank. "Grand-père - "

He shot her a deadly stare that had her clamping her mouth shut.

He turned his glare to Kat. "So after all I've done for you, you're deciding to leave."

Kat's stare didn't waver. "What you did was endanger us even more."

Hugo narrowed his eyes. "So I made a decision you don't agree with, you decide to abandon me, after I gave you a home, a family."

Kat shook her head. "No. The decision you made is going to get us killed, and I refuse to stick around to die. Savannah has made her decision, and you won't get in her way."

Hugo cast Savannah a withering glare. "So she has, has she?"

Savannah started to feel anger bubbling inside of her. "The decision you made has endangered us. You've lied to me my whole life. I feel like I don't even know you anymore."

Hugo went dead still and stared at his granddaughter, his expression a cross between shock and hurt. Her heart ached at seeing that look on her grandfather's face, but he lied to her, endangered her and her family.

Then he went expressionless again, causing Savannah's heart to flutter nervously.

"Very well," Hugo said, his voice thick with emotion. "Go ahead and go. Go ahead and leave and put yourself in danger because apparently the person who's raised and cared for you all of your life is so dangerous. But don't come running to me when something happens."

Tears sprung to Savannah's eyes. "Grand-père, you lied to me."

He shook his head and abruptly turned his back to her. "Go. I will not explain myself to you anymore."

Kat took Savannah by the arm. "Vannah, let's go."

Savannah stared at her grandfather for a moment longer before allowing herself to be led away by her sister. Apparently, her grandfather wanted nothing more to do with her.

After they were a couple yards away, Kat embraced her. "I'm sorry, Vannah."

Savannah could only nod, her throat so tight on emotion she couldn't even talk.

Kat pulled away and pointed east. "We can head that way and go from there." She gently touched Savannah's arm. "He lied to you. He put us in danger. We're just trying to protect ourselves."

Savannah nodded again.

They shifted into their animal forms and started to travel east. Her gut was telling her that she was doing the right thing by going with Kat, but her heart still broke at leaving her grandfather behind.

Tara opened her eyes slowly, pain coursing through her shoulder. She squinted against a harsh light that hung overhead. She scanned the room she was in; she was laying on a concrete floor, all around her were concrete walls with cracks in them, the ceiling concrete as well with various small cracks with a single light bulb that was shining brightly.
