You’d think I’d be used to this, but I’m not. This is probably the seventh time I’ve moved house, but not to this extreme. We’ve moved to Melbourne, Australia. All because of my Mom’s work. We usually just moved to different cities in the U.K, but my Mom got promoted to a higher rank, moving us out to Australia. Am I excited? Yes and No, because it’s a whole new experience and place, but I’m leaving my childhood behind, my family behind, and my friends. But worst of all, my boyfriend Sam. We’ve been together for about 2 years now, and things are serious so for this to happen is just one big mess.
But before, I tell you my story, let me tell you about myself. I’m 17 going on 18. I’d say I’m just under the average height of any 17 year old girl, but that doesn’t bother me. I have brown hair, just coming after my shoulders, with a side fringe. I’m tanned-ish with freckles; apparently my freckles are my best feature according to Sam. But what I love about myself, are my eyes. They’re like a really sparkly blue/green colour. Oh, and my names Liv, short for Olivia.
I’m in Heathrow Airport, in London waiting in the boarding room. I said my good-byes to Sam, my friends and family in the entrance. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Everyone was just stood there in tears, constantly taking tissues from out of their pockets. Sam didn’t seem that bad to be honest, yes he was crying but he wasn’t going crazy. I’m sat down in-between my Mom and Dad, whilst my little brother Ben is asleep on Dad. My phone is constantly flashing, notifying me of texts and tweets I’m receiving. I’ve had about 20 messages off Sam telling me how much he’d miss me and how he’ll call me every night, but he doesn’t realise about the whole time difference between England and Australia. I can feel my Mom looking over at me, watching me text back long paragraphs to Sam.
“How you feeling Hun?” She looks at me with sympathetic eyes.
“I don’t know, I really don’t.” I look back at my phone, and put it on silent and slide it into my pocket. “Do you think I’ll ever see Sam again?” I ask.
“Urm... Honestly I think the chances are slim. But who knows Liv; it really is a tough question.” I don’t respond to her, because the thought of not seeing him crushes me. “You’ll have to turn your phone off soon you know, it won’t be long till we board.” She places her hand on my thigh reassuring me, and begins talking to Dad. I pull out my phone, and decide not to check it, but to just turn it off.
*bing-bong*, “Can all passengers flying out to Melbourne, Australia please begin to board your plane in Terminal 7 now please.” My heart pounds and I can feel myself sweating, my stomach turning inside out. I stand up and make my way to the entrance of my new life – the boarding gate.
