Frankly, even though I was with people I adored, I didn't think that night would ever end. It was terrifying at every turn. So Mirahn had blocked us from getting out, and she really wasn't gonna take no for an answer. So there we were. Stuck. In a room. At 10 pm. With a girl who was drama-hungry. Okay, I make her sound a bit insane. She's not, I'm just very reserved compared to her at times. Anyway, let's get to the point. My being doomed.
"I would say that my mom is waiting for me but we all know that's a lie." I mentally cursed my previous request. I had to mooch a ride somehow, didn't I?
"Yeah, so you have no excuse." Mirahn said somewhat smugly. We were pretty good at annoying her so she got to the point where she got so fed up she went down the stairs and told us to figure it out. We heard the door slam loudly. Then Mads and I talked for a minute or so. I mean apart from the fact that I was still blushing an inhuman amount, I was happy. I was actually comfortable. People who write never seem to forget what was actually said. Honestly, I just remember the aftermath.
"Well, I should probably go," Mads admitted. "Oh, and I like you." He then proceeded to yell down the darkened staircase "Is that what you wanted, Mirahn?" I was a hecka lot more surprised when she was actually in the dark. She responded. What she said, I have no idea. All I remember is having a mental breakdown. So he slung his backpack over his shoulder and started to walk to the staircase.
"You're really going to leave like that?!"
"I said that I liked you." His eyes glinted.
"Yeah but- you didn't explain. In what sense of the word? As just a friend or... as more?" I choked on the last words. This doesn't happen to people like me. I am the person that just reads and does nothing with her life. So of course I'm mentally losing it and trying really hard not to hyperventilate or, you know, die. Of joy or adrenaline, we'll never know.
"What do you think?" Mads asked, smirking, probably knowing he was making me blush more than previously thought possibly by mankind and making my heart beat so much that I could hear it in my ears as I panicked. He walked down the stairs into the dark. Then in like 30 seconds I grabbed my bag and followed him which kind of killed the drama because he was the one giving me a ride home, but it was still a great exit. On the way home, I tried to carry a conversation and give directions. Bad idea. I'm already terrible at giving directions, so it made even worse. At one point we had to turn around in a parking lot.
The next week at school, somehow (cough Mirahn cough) most of SC knew what had happened and wanted details. We then got grilled and relentlessly teased for the next few weeks. We started texting a lot. Of course, I was always a little bit insecure about anything I said, but most of the time, it was just really nice to talk to someone. He's an amazing listener and is so easy to talk to. Over the next few months, we got to know each other a lot better. We wound up memorizing each other's schedules and having fun.
Well this informative flashback has taken long enough. Long story short, we're more than friends but we're not "in a relationship" as far as my definition's concerned. So where was I? Oh yeah, SC. I'm really excited to paint soon. After SC though, we had our flex period. It was uneventful, so after that I went to lunch. I met up with Eva and Alec outside. I've known her and her sister for ages. Eva's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and can also be a bit of a sheltered little snowflake sometimes. Then again, so can I.
"Hey Eva! Alec! How were your guys' classes?" I brushed my hair out of my face as I sat down on the grass.
"It was pretty okay, how about you, Mae?" Alec asked, like the gentleman he always is. I dunno how he deals with us sometimes. Actually it's probably just me.
"Pretty good. I mean, I did just come from SC."
"Ooooooh!" Alec smirked and nudged me with his elbow knowingly.
"Oh hush. Moving on, how about you?" I turned to Eva.
"Honestly it could've been better. But did you hear? Laine broke her tailbone." she said, worriedly.
