What I really am fond of are the stories behind the things we now know.

Amidst controversy and garnered distaste from every walks of life, Comic Sans at its core is here because of two reasons: learning and children.

Rover was a digital dog assistant on Microsoft PC that guides users how to navigate the new system. Vincent Connare found it unfitting to use Times New Roman as the font for the dog's dialogues. Hence the birth of Comic Sans. It embodies fun, and lessens the strain on learning. Some writers even find themselves more productive when writing with the said font.

And that's where The Shining comes in: writing.

You can look at Kubrick's "The Shining" as a film about a writer driven into insanity caused by several factors including his writer's block and his inability to admit he's a fraud of a writer anyway (cue: typewriter scene).

Both font & film have this certain linger, this ripple effect, that is achingly familiar. The familiarity on the film is its consideration as a modern cinematic masterpiece despite the issues on its production. Meanwhile, Comic Sans' familiar flair stems from the fact that it is widely used on children's learning books. In a way, whether we like it or not, it's part of our foundation.
