We pulled apart. He leaned forward and pressed his lips against my cheek.
"Now stop crying" he brushed my face with his hand. "You need to be happy, and being miserable isn't helping you. We need to get your mind off things" his thumb paused at my lips. Our eyes locked.
"Like what?" his gaze was holding me.
"Well" his eyes wrinkled. "How about I take you out to dinner? You and I"
"That would be fun but you know we can't" I leaned backwards so that he was no longer touching me. He dropped his hands with a frustrated look.
My stomach fell heavily knowing that I was right. We couldn't be seen together no matter how much I wanted to go out with him.
"And I can't do that whole hiding thing again" I sighed heavily. My hands grasped his tightly. "I like you Byron"
Not wanting to see what would be on his face, I avoided looking at him.
"I still like you and it has been such a long time but we both know it won't work out again besides I don't think I could go into a relationship right now" he tilted my face towards him. I kept my eyes on the chair behind me.
"Well at least let me be near you" Byron leaned in closer. He was only a few inches away from me. I stopped breathing. He pressed his lips against mine gently. His hand ran up my arm. He grasped my arms tightly. I pushed him away gasping for breath.
"Let me-" I shook my head. "Sorry- I" I grasped my arm tightly. I fell back against the edge of the bed.
"Don't apologize" he got to his feet. He helped me to my feet. "at least you didn't burn me" Byron joked, his voice was filled with humor. He was trying to ease the tension between us.
His humor only made me grimace. It also made me rather apprehensive because next time I would burn someone and it wouldn't be a pretty sight.
Byron opened his mouth and he closed it. He squeezed my hands.
"Don't stress so much. You will get better it is only a matter of time" he leaned forward. I thought he was going to kiss me again but he kissed my forehead. I closed my eyes. I only nodded in response.
There was a soft knock on the door. I immediately released Byron and stepped away. Byron took a seat.
"Come in"
Henri had a couple of covered plates in hand.
"Good morning, and you are finally awake" Henri grinned at Byron. I couldn't imagine Byron's face had hardened at the sight of Henri. "I come bearing gifts" he lifted the plates. "Ezra and Thomas are on their way up as well. It looks like we are having breakfast your room Iris and I didn't even get to spend the night"
I laughed in response at his awful joke. I could swear that Byron was trying to burn him alive with his gaze.
Henri took a seat next to me. He handed us each a plate.
"Thank you" Byron replied curtly. "Don't you have class" he was trying to get rid of him.
"Nope, don't you?" Henri retorted. I glanced at the both of them. They were glaring at each other. "You know professor duties and what not"
"Fridays are a late day for me" Byron leaned back into his chair. "I've got all morning" he arched an eyebrow.
"Me too" Henri shrugged. "As a matter of fact all day" he leaned against the bed post.
"Umm" I cleared my throat. "I don't. I've got class at 10:30" I put my feet up and leaned against my pillow.
"Why did no-one bother to get us" Ezra exclaimed as soon as he was in my room. He was pushing a small cart with food and drinks. Thomas was carrying plates, utensils and napkins.
