I woke up once again but this time, to the cries of a familiar voice. It was Wendy’s.  I opened my eyes adjusting to the bright lights- finding it easier this time. Blurred was my vision of Wendy struggling to break free from the cuffs and nurses pinning her down while trying to calm the patient.

“Wendy! Wendy! Calm down. I’m here okay?” I gave my best to try and calm Wendy down.  Thank God she calmed down hearing my voice. The nurses thanked me and explained that Wendy had been like this for quite some time which reminded me,

How long have I been passed out?

As I looked over to the clock next to me, it stated- 12 September, 2.56pm. The marathon was held on the 11th. I was unconscious for a day! Soon my stomach started to grumble. I realised how famished I was.

It was finally dinner time after we finished checks if we were healthy and “clean”. They never explained to me what it meant and kept passing it off as nothing. Being the hungry me I did not bother asking too much and only thought of dinner.

We were sent to the cafeteria with a group of others dressed similar. The females were dressed in a grey cotton dress and the males were dressed in grey t shirts and sweatpants. As we glanced over the entire cafeteria, we saw the boys. We made our way towards them however we were stopped.

“Excuse me the females are to seat over on the left side of the cafeteria. “

“Loosen up sir they are our friends after all. Let us sit with the- “I nudged Wendy before she could finish her sentence.

Quite ironic I felt when she talked about loosening up. Has she seen herself act in the afternoon?

The security dude decided to just allow us to seat together since we were new and ‘don’t know how things work around here’.  I got a plate of spicy mac and cheese since the ones Wesley and Aiden ate looked appetising and Wendy got a chilli dog.  Before she took her first bite, the speaker blasted and a manly hoarse voice was heard.

“Hope everyone is enjoying their dinner. Sorry for the impromptu announcement but I would like to introduce the new members joining our movement”

Everyone started to clap and cheer so the entire group felt that we were obliged to stand and wave. So we waved as he said our name.

Let’s welcome Wesley, Wendy, Penny, Aiden and Caspar. Could the five of you meet me at my office once you are done with your dinner?  Thank you and for the rest it is Tune in Tuesday! Do request for your favourite songs to be played in your dorms!”

We were escorted to the inner rooms of this foreign infrastructure.  A large silver door greeted us as we awed in amazement. The room it led into sat a stout man in his 40s. It was the same man from the speaker!
