BEN FELT LIKE he was on cloud nine after his little road trip with Thalia. He was able to open up to her in a way that he never had been able to with anyone else, and she was able to do the same. He was content with where they were in their friendship, and really hoped that it could progress into a romantic relationship. It definitely felt like that was where it was going after the day they spent together.
Yes, Benjamin Pavard was truly happy with his life, and of course his teammates took quick notice of that.
"So how was it being stuck in a car with Thalia all day," questioned Lucas as soon as he saw Ben walk into the locker room. It was no surprise to Ben that he would be the first of the team to share their curiosity, as he was always nosey ever since he first met him with the nation team.
"We want to hear all the juicy details," pipped up Joshua while lacing up his boots. The eagerness in his voice was very evident.
"First of all, that is none of your business," Ben replied earning groans from the rest of the team, who were clearly invested in his and Thalia's relationship. "Second, nothing that important even happened."
"Bullshit, you guys definitely kissed," interjected Leon.
All the assumptions for his teammates started. He knew that the media constantly thought they knew what was going on in his personal life, but he never expected it from his teammates as well.
"No, we definitely did not kiss," Ben stated, but his clarification caused something strange to happen in the dressing room. Suddenly the players started pulling out money from belongings while some had looks of defeat and others were smiling with triumph. Ben started to piece together what was going on. "Did you guys make bets on wether me and Thalia would kiss during the road trip?"
In that moment, the whole squad looked at their phones, the floor, the walls, and any other place around the room that was not Ben's face.
"Unbelievable."
Manuel, being the captain, felt like he should speak on the situation. "I am honestly appalled and disappointed in all of you. Seriously? Betting on wether or not your teammate was going to be kissed? Have some shame."
"Oh please, you are not any better than the rest of us," chimed in Thomas as he walked over to the captain. "Here is your five bucks."
The thirty-four year old just smiled apologetically at Ben after he got caught for being just like the others, but he made sure to glare daggers at Thomas for outing him.
"I can't trust any of you anymore." Ben said while shaking his head.
"We are all sorry Benji," Robert said while putting his arm around the French defender. "We made a mistake and promise that it will never happen."
Ben took the thirty-one year old's arm right off. Doubt it. "I don't even want to hear it from. You were the last person I would expect to do this to me."
While he was trying to remain serious, Ben could not help but let a smile slip out. His cover was blown, and his teammates saw right through his mad and tough guy act.
"Nice try, but we all know you still love us."
The team continued to joke around with each other as they were existing the dressing room. Ben had a wide grin while making his way onto the pitch, and he thought seeing Thalia would make it even better, but seeing her made his smile diminish for some reason.
That reason could have been that Thalia was with another guy that Ben had never seen before, and she was clearly laughing with him.
While Ben was never really the jealous type before, something about what he had just seen flipped a switch in him. It hurt to see her with some other guy just a day after their road trip together.
Throughout the rest of the day, he wanted to go up an talk to her, but she was with that guy the whole time. He thought that maybe she would just come talk to him, but she never did. Ben arrived to work on cloud nine and excited to see Thalia, but he left feeling like he was in a ditch and upset by the fact that she pretended like he didn't even existed while she was with another guy.
