It was Friday evening. It was about to be 7PM and Mabel was trying her best to focus on the new issue of a magazine she was reading but Dipper seemed oblivious to Mabel's frustration towards him. He wouldn't shut up about these stupid new machines Ford got for his lab. At this point Mabel had to use strong self control to not chuck a pillow at her brother's head. "Mabel, you wouldn't believe all the machines Ford got! They are amazing!" Dipper chattered on. Why did Dipper think Mabel cared about these machines? He knew she wasn't much into science. She hardly gone down into any of the two floors of Ford's lab unless she needed Ford or she had to go there for reasons of safety. The last time she had been down in Ford's lab was a week before Halloween because of the possibility of a creature being near the house. She stayed in place in those situations. She didn't walk around exploring the lab because it was not only dangerous but it would be the last thing on her mind. Dipper's babblings seem to have no end. Mabel didn't know if Dipper was taking deep breaths in between sentences. She hasn't heard any intakes of air. This led Mabel to think of three explanations as to why she hasn't heard her brother inhale.
1. He was inhaling so fast that she couldn't catch it
2. She is so zoned out that she isn't noticing her brother pausing to take deep breaths
3. Dipper is breaking the world record of someone holding their breath the longest.
Mabel was wondering how her brother hadn't passed out from lack of oxygen yet. Dipper must have some incredible lung power to not breathe for the past 15 minutes. Finally she broke her silence. "Dipper, I doubt any of these machines are more amazing than that god forsaken portal." Mabel had a bit of an aggravated tone but Dipper didn't seem to notice. "I don't know about that Mabel. You will have to see the machine's whenever Ford finishes installing them." Mabel sighed at this and rolled her eyes. "Let me give you some wisdom. If any of these machines are more amazing than the portal then it most likely has the ability to cause something worse than weirdmageddon."Mabel stated closing the magazine since she lost all hope of being able to read it. "What could be worse than weirdmageddon?" Dipper questioned. "Lots of things. A nuclear bomb attack, the moon falling out of the sky, the fucking sun exploding; the list goes on. Now please shut your yaps and let me be in peace. Keep your nerdy science stuff to yourself or find someone who actually cares." Mabel snapped totally done with the conversation and at the end of her wits. "Jesus! Someone's not happy. Fine. I will go else where. Obviously you need to cool down." Dipper said heading towards the door and then leaving the room after he finished talking. Mabel felt a sense of relief when she heard Dipper leaving the attic. She got her phone and earbuds and turned on her music. Music has been a thing that was guaranteed to calm her down. It even cheered her up when she was depressed. She laid her head down on her pillow. She was already feeling her frustration and anger melt away. After about 20 minutes her anger has completely dissipated but now she was deep in thought. Were these machines more amazing then the portal? She seriously doubted it but what was the harm in checking them out herself? "There are may harms. Grunkle Ford's equipment can be incredibly dangerous if mishandled." She thought. She made a decision that will lower the risk of an accident by 100%. She would simply look at them but not touch them. She would try to get as much information about them just by looking at them. She had to do it when nobody was in the lab. She will have to do it in the middle of the night. The only problem with that was the fact that Ford stayed up pretty late. She picked 3AM to be a safer time to investigate. She knew her uncle wouldn't be up at the time. He would be in bed sleeping peacefully. He only made the mistake of staying up past three once and he was tired beyond belief the whole day so he always gone to bed before three. Later on, the clock struck eleven meaning that Dipper, Mabel and Stan would be going to bed. Mabel went under her covers and acted as she normally would at bedtime. She wished her brother goodnight as usual and her brother switched of the lantern that was providing light in their room. It was pitch black as always. They had a bit more light than they usually do as tonight was a full moon and clear skies. She stayed awake not doing much other than lying in her bed and going into her own mind. She looked at her brother and seen that he was already passed out. It didn't surprise her though. Dipper had been in the forest pretty much all day. Mabel didn't go so what her brother was doing or what he encountered was unknown to her. It could have been anything. "In Gravity Falls, anything is possible." Mabel whispered to herself. She went back to these supposedly amazing machines her uncle had. She thought how amazing the portal was but if any of these machines were more amazing than the portal, it most likely could cause something worse than Weirdmageddon. Sure, Weirdmageddon was caused by Bill Cipher but Bill couldn't have done that if it wasn't for the rift and the rift couldn't have existed if it wasn't for Stan reopening the portal. She still scolds herself for letting Bill trick her into giving him the rift. Although she had to hand it to him, he was pretty clever to possess a time traveler guy who knew a lot about time. Who wouldn't have been tricked by that? If Blendin's eyes weren't covered by his goggles she wouldn't have been tricked as she would've seen that the whites of his eyes were a glowing pale yellow and that would've been a dead give away. Bill was always clever and that was one of his major strengths. Bill had trapped her into a fucked up fantasy world. She still blames herself for being a part of the equation to starting Weirdmageddon. She let her emotions take over and now the entire town was traumatized. Of course it's a law in Gravity Falls to not talk about Weirdmageddon to tourist. You can till talk about it among Gravity Falls residents that lived there at the time. Some people's memory of the ordeal were incorrect in some parts as those people were part of Bill's throne of human suffering. The only one's that will have complete memory of every fact would be Mabel, Dipper, Ford, and the people who found safety at the Bill proofed shack. Stan wasn't in that group of people even though he survived through it. The reason why was that the memories of Weirdmageddon never surfaced after Ford erased his mind with the memory gun. The rest of his memory returned over time but the only thing Stan said he remembered of the event was when Bill went to enter his mind. Stan still goes though periods of forgetfulness as if he has Dementia but they all know it was just a side effect of having his memory erased. Eventually 3AM arrived and Mabel quietly sat up in her bed. She stood up from her bed and tiptoed to the door. She looked at her brother and he was still out like a light. She opened the door. She was thankful that Ford had oiled the door just a few days ago otherwise the door would release a loud creaking noise and that would wake up everyone in the house. She sliently walked down the steps and at the last step, she looked at the door of Ford's bedroom which was located in a hallway behind the stairs. She could see that the light was off meaning that her uncle had gone to bed. The whole house was silent and all she could hear was her breathing. If it was summer she would hear crickets and tree frogs but it was mid November and the first day of winter was only two days away. She stepped off the last step and did her best to quietly walk to the former Mystery Shack gift shop. She entered the room. It was dark as hell in the room. The only light was the light the vending machine was giving off. She walked past the couch and stood in front of the vending machine. She quickly put in the code while being annoyed that the beeping was being a bit to loud for comfort. The entrance was revealed and she stepped inside and the door closed behind her. Now she was past the hard part. She went down the steps and went in front of the elevator doors and pushed the button. In a few seconds the doors opened. She went in and pushed the button for the first floor of Ford's lab. She had no idea where these machines would be. The elevator gently went down and before Mabel know it the door opened. The area was pitch black and she went up against the wall until she found a light switch. The lights switched on. This floor was pretty messy. Her uncle must not be one to keep his lab clean. She hasn't seen any new machines. All she sees is a desk and a big screen that was used on Dipper as Ford attempted to protect Dipper's mind from Bill. "Nothing new here. They all must be on the last floor." She thought. She pushed the button of the elevator and made sure to turn off the light before leaving. She pushed the button that took her to the next floor of the lab. The door opened and to her surprise the lights were on. Did she make a mistake? Was her uncle still up? She didn't really make sure that Ford was in his room asleep. She stood still and heard nothing so she assumed that Ford must've accidentally left the lights on. She stepped out of the elevator and in a few seconds she heard the doors slowly close behind her. She looked around the room. Lots of computer screens and buttons that she didn't know what they do. She walked through slowly. So far there hasn't been any machines that look new. She walked to the end of a short hallway and opened a mental door. She switched on the light to see that it was the room that connected to the former portal room. She looked through the large window. The former portal room was completely black. She couldn't see a thing. She could only see the metal dusty floor that was a few inches away from the window as the light of the room she was in shined through the window. She knows that there isn't any lights in the old portal room. She then remembered that her uncle used it for storage. She didn't see any new machines anywhere else so her uncle had yet to install them. Where would he keep machines that he hadn't installed yet? He obviously wouldn't keep them out in the open. Them being out in the open would raise the chances of one of them getting broke. A lot of Ford's machines were very fragile and needed to be handled with care. Ford would obviously put the machines in the old portal room. She didn't bring her cell phone with her so she couldn't use the flashlight on her phone. Surely, Ford had something like a lantern or flashlight down in his lab. Those two things had to be in a lab. It wouldn't make since if they weren't. Those were pretty normal things to keep in the lab. She looked around the room. She didn't see any flashlight or lantern anywhere in the room. She went into the short hallway and looked around. The hallway itself didn't have lights either even though they could easily be installed. She walked out of the hallway to see a flashlight sitting on a desk. She took and after making sure that it worked, she went back to the room she once was at. She pushed open the metal door which she had to use her whole body to push it open. The door was really heavy but that was to be expected when it leads to a room that was used for a portal that had a lot of power. She went passed by some boxes filled with random things. Some had jars that Ford uses to trap some creatures in and some that had some super strong glue. After passing three boxes, she found herself looking at a new machine. She was sure this one was new. It looked like it was never used before. It had no small dents and didn't have any dirt on it. She glided the light over it. It had a lever, three buttons which were different colors, and a small rectangular screen. What could this be used for. She tried to find some kind of carving or sticker that might give her a clue of what the machine could be used for but she only seen a small sticker that just had random numbers. Suddenly she hears a loud crash behind her. She immediately turned around with her flashlight pointed to the ground. She saw two small glowing eyes peering at her from the darkness. She slowly backed up and hit up against what she assumed was the machine. She felt her arm hit something and heard the sound of metal hitting metal behind her. She couldn't focus on the metal sound. She was more concerned with the glowing eyes staring at her. She nervously raised her flashlight up to the eyes while getting ready to run out of the room. As soon as she shined the light at it, she seen an animal squeak and fly to another corner of the room. She only seen it for a split second but it was enough for her to realize it was just a bat. "Damn bat! How did it even get down here?" She asked herself in her head. She had a theory that it got in through the small tunnel that started under the porch and ended at the floor of the lab she was at. That tunnel needed to be fixed but they couldn't afford it. They wouldn't have that problem if Dipper were careful and had not fallen through the small porch hole when they were 12. Dipper has scars on his arms and back from crashing through the planks of wood. She calmed down and turned around and seen that she made a fatal mistake. Her arm must've hit the lever and made it break off and land on the floor. "Oh fuck! Nice job Mabel! Now grunkle Ford is gonna know somebody has been down here! I'm so fucking stupid!" Mabel cursed to herself. Hopefully her uncle would wait at least a couple of days before deciding to install the machines. She had no idea how expensive the machine was but she knew it was probably expensive enough to stop someone's heart when hearing the price. Might cost the same as a heart transplant if not more. "I better write a will because I'm pretty sure grunkle Ford is gonna murder me after this." She said to herself. She wasn't even sure if that was a joke or not. It's meant to be a joke but Ford murdering her over the machine might become reality. Who the hell knows? Money can really make someone go insane. There are so many cases of people murdering other people over money. "If there is a god, please help me." Mabel prayed out loud. She might very well be talking to herself but now is not the time to question it. She walked out of the room and her hairclip fell out of her hair on to the floor without her knowing. The door closed and she went out of the former portal control room, making sure to turn off the light. She made her way out of the hallway and put the flashlight back on the desk. She waited for the elevator door to open and she turned off the lights of the lab when they did. She took the elevator back up to the first floor. She made her way up the stairs. She was unsure if somebody was up as she had no idea what time it was. She felt like she wasn't down there that long at all but time has a habit of speeding up when you aren't paying attention to it. She put in the code and the door slid open with a puff of released air. It revealed to her a darkened living room. The sun was still down and the sky was showing no signs of it's arrival when she looked out the window. "Well the sun is down so it hasn't been too long." She whispered to herself. She made her way to the stair case and made sure to miss the steps that creak. She made her way up to the attic and quietly opened the bedroom door. She made her way to her bed and as soon as she went to lay down she heard her brother speak. "Where were you? You were gone when I woke up and that was ten minutes ago." She nearly stopped breathing and she was pretty sure she jumped five inches off of the mattress. Dipper looked at her waiting for his sister to answer. Mabel had to quickly make up a lie. "I don't know what happened. I woke up on the couch on the porch. I have no idea how I got there." Mabel lied. Dipper held himself up by his arm quickly. "What?! You must've slept walked. You haven't done that since we were 11. I hope you're not starting that again." Dipper complained. Mabel used to sleep walk very often when they were younger. She would do it almost every night and it got to the point where they had to put a latch on the front and back door where they couldn't reach so Mabel wouldn't walk outside. It was a bit more dangerous in California than what it is in Gravity Falls but that doesn't mean that it's safe her to sleep walk outside. She could walk into a cave or fall into the creek near by or maybe even get kidnapped. There were still lots of dangers in Gravity Falls. "I hope I'm not starting to sleep walk again." Mabel said and laid down. "We are gonna have to tell Stan and Ford about this. I can't have my sister sleep walking outside and getting hurt." Dipper whispered. "Dipper, I'm sure that it's just this one time. I know you worry about me but I'll be fine." Mabel argued. "I think the word 'worry' is a bit of a understatement. I am absolutely terrified of you getting hurt or getting kidnapped. I am telling our uncles in the morning and that's final!" Dipper spoke with a bit of force. "Okay Dipper! Chill out!" Mabel then sighed and turned away from her brother to go to sleep.
