It was late at night, Germany sitting on the edge of his bed and sobbing quietly. He couldn't sleep, his heart aching. Sometimes he had these moments, sometimes recently having been every day, though.

He felt like he was all alone, and the only person he had left now was drifting away from him, too. It hurt so bad, because it was Poland. It was always Poland. Somehow, he never left him. Not yet, at least. And, well, he was scared for the day he did.

Germany tried to calm himself, thinking of Poland. It was a memory, that was the first thing he thought of. Of course, not a very good one...

It was quite early in the morning, Germany awoken by a phone call from Poland. He frowned as he saw the name, already having a feeling of why he called. Sighing, he then answered.

"Hallo, Polen? Are you alright...?" His voice was quiet, hesitant. Right after he spoke, he heard sobs coming from the other end. Germany held his phone closer. "Hey... don't cry, Polen... What's wrong?" There was sniffling and more sobs, before Poland finally spoke.

"I-I haven't... stopped crying... since y-you were here e-earlier..." He stammered, crying harder. Tearing up, Germany wished he could be there right now to hug him. Poland continued, "My father's b-been drinking... I need a place t-to stay..." Germany was about to speak, but Poland's sobbing interrupted him. "I don't w-want to be here-! He's... he's saying the words th-that he promised he'd never say...!" Wiping the tears from his eyes, Germany knew he had to be strong for his friend.

"Okay, Polen... You can come over, I'll leave the back door open for you, alright?" His voice was nearly a whisper, trying to keep Poland calm. The other hiccuped softly, mumbling an agreement and thanks. Germany smiled sadly. "Of course... See you soon." He hesitated, pulling his phone away, before hitting the end call button. It made him feel bad. Maybe they should have stayed on the phone until he got there. Well, it was too late for that now.

Getting out of bed, he grabbed a pillow and blanket and walked into the living room. He may have only been in high school, but he lived alone, so he didn't have to worry about being too loud. Like Poland, his father was abusive. So much so that he killed his brother. But, that was years ago. After it happened, he ran away. Something he should have done with his brother, and much sooner. Shaking his head, he shouldn't think about the past and what he should have done differently. It wasn't helpful.

Now, Germany gently placed the pillow down on one end of the couch, and also folded the blanket and placed that down as well. He sat down on the couch himself, waiting. Checking his phone, he made sure that Poland hadn't texted him, which he didn't. That was neither a good or bad sign. He just hoped he would be there soon.
