"Is it scary up there...?" The Polish boy whispered, his voice weak as he spoke. His hand stayed holding Germany's, their fingers intertwined.

Germany looked up to him, that having been the first thing he'd said in a long period of silence. Even though he had just calmed down, tears filled his eyes again, holding Poland's hand tightly.

"Polen, don't say things like that-! You're going to be fine..." He whispered, not wanting his voice to crack in the middle of him speaking. The tears began streaming down his face just at the thought of Poland dying. Germany didn't want him to leave. But, the Pole ignored his plea and repeated himself.

"Is it scary, Niemcy...?" Poland remained calm unlike Germany who broke down into tears. Soft sobs escaped his throat, and he choked up, holding Poland's hand with both of his now. Managing to relax enough to speak, his words were shaky.

"N-Nein, Polen... It's nice... up there... Peaceful..." Germany reassured, starting to realize he needed to accept that Poland may be running out of time. That didn't make this any easier, though.

Poland continued, while his breaths began to slow and he calmed down further. It seemed he was accepting that he would be leaving this world as well.

"Do you promise, N-Niemcy...?" Tears slowly came to his eyes as well, not at the thought of death, but at the thought of leaving his lover. His best friend in the entire world.

Words became caught in Germany's throat, unable to get them out. So, he simply shut his eyes tightly, nodding feebly.

A weak but gentle smile came upon Poland's face as the tears in his own eyes fell as well. Resting his head down, he whispered quietly.

"Dobry." (Good.) Was the only word Poland said, barely audible. The grip on Germany's hand weakened, and a loud sob escaped him because of the feeling. Shaking his head quickly, more cries of agony rang throughout the hospital room.

"Nie umieraj! Stirb nicht!" (Don't die! Do not die!) The German begged him, as if anything would change from his desperate tone. He let go of Poland's hands, only to lean down and pull him into a tight hug. This caused the Polish boy to widen his eyes a bit in surprise, before relaxing and closing them. Leaning into it, he hugged the German back with all his strength.

"Ich liebe dich, Niemcy..." (I love you) Poland said, weakly clutching onto the back of his shirt. There wasn't any time left, Germany needed more time.

"Kocham cię, Polen...!" (I love you) The German replied, crying harder. He usually was in control of his emotions, but all of that fell apart when he was around Poland.

They held each other like this, and Germany was feeling so tired from all of his crying. Nearly just falling asleep like that, everything changed as he heard a loud, continuous beep. He didn't even flinch, but let out soft sobs, not letting go of Poland still. It was too difficult. Things would never be the same, and he felt like he'd never recover. Everything was falling apart. If only he could turn back time. Maybe Germany could have saved Poland, or at least loved him more. Hopefully he would remember, wherever he was now, that Germany cared so much about him. That was all he could ask for.
