She walked into the hospital and she was a bit scattered. The lobby was very big and bright. On the opposite wall there was a window across the whole wall. It was dark outside so the lights were on. The lobby was full of people. Some people sat on the plastic chairs. It was a type of chairs that are usually found in the waiting rooms. Some people stood in lines and were holding some sort of papers. It all was swarm with movement, the medical stuff were walking up and down and it all resembled a bee hive.
It took her a while, before she pulled herself together and found a receptionist sitting in a small compound office in the middle of the lobby. She went over to him. He was looking the computer screen and was busily punching the keyboard. Nevertheless she spoke to him because she could never find the old man by herself.
“Excuse me.”
She obviously distracted him and he jerkily turned to her. But the moment he saw her his expression became softer. He asked her with a pleasant voice:
“Hello there. How can I be of any assistance?”
“Is it here always so vivid?”
“Ah, not at all. Today is actually quite calm. You should be here when there is a major accident.”
“Ah, I almost forgot why I am actually here. I brought a gentleman that was taken to a doctor Ba… Be… I think I have forgotten his last name.”
“Here are quite a few doctors beginning on a letter B. About 10, if I’m not mistaken.”
“Wait. The boy said a room number. It was… 117. Yes, 117.”
“Oh, yes. It would be dr. Brumm. You go along the corridor to the end.” He showed the long corridor on the other side of the lobby. “Then you take the elevator to the first floor. The room 117 is fourth on your right.”
“Thank you very much.”
“I wish you a pleasant day,” he said and turned back to his computer.
The hall was long, by the sides where chairs for clients and the endless row of doors. Finally she got to the elevator and pushed the button.
She effortlessly found the room 117. She stood there for the moment and took a deep breath. She was thinking about leaving the old man here, because she fulfilled her part by driving him here. But her conscience wouldn’t allow her that. She knew she was the one that injured him. She has to find out if he is all right.
She automatically stretched her arm and knocked on the door.
