Defeated

I looked up at the tree, the lowest branch was maybe five feet above my head. It looked so... possible. I felt another burst of energy as I jumped off the ground and stretched my arms to hold on the branch, and I actually made it. I pulled myself up, which I didn't get as I could never do a pull-up in Phys Ed. I jumped to the next branch, kind of like Tarzan honestly.

Once I got to maybe the third branch, I looked at the manticore. Nico hadn't noticed yet, probably from exhaustion. The manticore's tail was lying flat on the ground as Nico was too weak for the manticore to expel more energy. I waited for the manticore to slash at Nico and jumped. I kept my eye on the tail and landed on the tip. The manticore didn't have much time to shriek as I stabbed him through his underside and again through his tail. Nico slashed his sword through the manticore's neck and the body exploded into the same dust as Ms. Nicky had. I looked down and saw that the tail had stayed.

"Come on Violet, we need to get to camp before anything pops out of the woods," Nico said. I saw Carson running back from the camp with two other people. One was a blonde-haired man wearing an orange shirt that said "Camp Half Blood" on it, a little taller than Nico with sun baked skin, and the other was an intimidating looking Asian man with a purple shirt that said SPQR. The blonde guy had a small kit with him, probably a first aid kit. I hadn't even noticed that Carson had run off. As I looked at them, I started to feel a bit dizzy. "Feel.. not good.. sleep," I said as I stumbled forwards and then everything went black.
————————————————FLASHBACK————————————————
"Dad! You made it!" I said running into my dad's arms. "Veronica said you weren't allowed to come because you had to work! What happened?" "Well, my sunshine, I wasn't about to miss your first big play! You're Charlotte, one of the biggest characters!" He fixed the yellow bow I was wearing that was now askew from the hug. It was the first play our school had done, and I had scored the lead of Charlotte's Web. Our director had transformed the book into a musical and I was one of the best singers, and she never picked favorites. He held out a bouquet of hyacinths and yellow roses, which weren't the best combination, but they looked so beautiful. "Here's for a great job."

The scene changed.

I was being pushed into a locker by the bullies at school. "Alien" they called me. That wasn't the best insult, but it hurt. Veronica had died and everyone knew that she died when I stepped in the hospital. I had told my best friend, only for her to stab me in the back and tell everyone. Then they learned that a day on Mars was called a Sol. Solis. Sol. Alien. I was already alone, being the nerdy and weird music kid. I was never strong or powerful, even if my dad told me so.

The scene changed again.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Why would you let them hurt her like this?" my dad yelled. He had only found out about the bullying when he saw me get slammed into a locker while he was bringing supplies to the school nurse. "Sir, I am very sorry, but there we no bruises left behind, and no evidence. We cannot trust word, so we are unable to suspend the students." "Fine then, we would like to switch schools. She will not be here next week." He shuffled me out of there and I said quietly, "Can I change my name? Not officially, but can you call me Violet?" He nodded, with a dejected look. "You're in fifth grade, bullies weren't common until middle school," he mumbled. His sunshine may not have been more in name, but she would hopefully come back.

————————————————AN————————————————-
AN: I know this chapter should have been longer, but I couldn't get it to fit right. Anyways, it's 666 words again, without the AN that is. Anyways, anarchy is a thing in the US and I've updated all of my other chapters after getting some critiques. Her name was Solis, and I'm not going to have her be called that unless you guys wantthat more. I kind of dislike the name Violet now, I have no idea to as why, but my internet pen name is ALSO Solis, and yes, I did have Violet's name be that before I decided on that as a pen name. Don't judge me.
