Chapter 6 • I took the rings out of my pocket and was looking at them as I was walking down the stairs. Carl wasn't sleeping on the couch anymore. I looked over in the kitchen, he was sitting at the table, smiling. "What?" I asked, putting the rings back in my pocket. I hope he didn't see. "Whatcha got there?" he asked, giggling. Shit. "What? Got what where? Who? Me? Nothing hahahaha." I said frantically and nervously. He started to get up. "Whatcha got in your pocket?" I started to back up. We were both laughing. "Hey June," What?" "free hugs." he said, smiling. He went up and hugged me and he tried to take the rings out of my pocket. He was rough and strong. "It's a surprise." I giggled, trying to break free. He stopped. "Okay, I respect that." he said, laughing. All of sudden we heard alot of banging on the front door in front of us. "Walkers," he whispered, "get your stuff and go upstairs, be quick about it." There was so many that I couldn't see out the window. We got upstairs, got into a bedroom and locked the door. He opened a window that we could jump out of. "Hurry, you first." he quickly said. He followed me out, we jumped down and ran. When it was okay to stop, we looked back. A huge horde, maybe 80 or more. They broke into the front door. "We would have been gone." he said, out of breath. I caught my breath after a while. "Yeah... I think it was time we started moving anyway. Anyway, damn you're quick, not to mention smart." I said. He laughed. "You forgot to mention  a few other things." he started. "Like, sweet, cute, kind, loving, caring, pretty, daring, awesome, strong, manly, a good kisser, romantic, perfect, and sexy. I could go on." "Did you mention 'completely full of yourself'?" I said, laughing. "No," he started. "I didn't because I'm just saying the things that you're thinking and too afraid to say." I remembered I still had the rings in my back pocket. "I would have said it. Eventually." I started, "just, when the time is right."
