Dear Reader. You Are A Superhero

Flaming leaves crunched underfoot as I walked towards a large acorn tree. it's mid-autumn in Auckland, I had just finished year 4. I was halfway through term 2 when we had a book report due so I decided to do it in the park. I sat on the dusty ground and leaned on the gnarly bark of the tree and turned over the page. minutes passed and I sat there quietly. at one point during the middle of the book, something had and heavy fell onto my head. I grunted and heaved the fallen object into my blurry vision. before my eyes could adjust or focus I blacked out.

I woke up in my bed. I checked my click. 9.30 pm. loud noises came from the lounge. tiptoeing I cracked open the door. It was just my parents watching an action movie. Suddenly it felt like my senses were heightened. A smell. A smell so clear I could almost see the trail. A smell so clear I could taste the mustiness of it on my tongue. I followed the distinctive smell to a book bound in leather on my desk. I picked it up and weighed it in my hands. My brain came up with 5kg. bound in hard rough Italian leather. Touched only by me and whoever put it on my desk. I turned the book over. on the front cover embossed in gold were the words: Dear Reader.  You Are Now A Superhero.

I tried to pry the book open but it remains firmly sealed. I watched in amazement as more words formed on the cover. "walk into your wardrobe and pull back the carpet." Clutching the still changing book I walked over to the wardrobe and stepped inside. It was a small dark space. Dress skirts and pants clung to my face like spiderwebs. Grasping in the dark I found the corner of the carpet and pulled it back to reveal an iron trap door. A blinding light emitted from a small dot in the door. Scanning my retinas. It felt like they were on fire. with a whoosh and a bang, the door opened revealing a set of iron stairs. I looked at the book. "Go Down" I hold my breath and enter the darkness beyond.
