"Daddy, I don't wanna eat broccoli"
I say looking into my dad's big brown eyes, and feeling the warmth and love I always got from them.
"Elma eat your broccoli, sweetie, like mommy's little good girl."
My mom says while exposing her beautiful pearl white smile. I could always feel her love, from her ocean blue eyes to her warm bear hugs. She always gave me the best hugs.
"I am not a little girl, mommy. I'm a big girl, like Lema."
I say while folding my arms and looking at my big sister type her fingers away on her cellphone. She used to play with me, and show me love. But lately she's distant. If she is not locked in her room, she is throwing up in the bathroom or crying herself to sleep.
"Lema, put your phone away!" Mom sternly commands her.
As usual my older sister will roll her eyes then place her cellphone down, face first. She barely eats, so I'm not surprised she's playing with her food and biting only small bits and pieces, to not make mom and dad suspicious.
"Lema what is wrong with you lately?" Dad asks with worry lingering in his voice.
"It's nothing dad, just a little tired. That's all."
Lema always lies to mom and dad and says it's nothing even though there is something wrong with her. She could be tired from not eating enough food, and also sleeping late.
She wasn't always like this, Lema used to be chubby but too much. She used to be lovely and had the most beautiful smile and heart. She used to be very caring and charismatic. She always made us laugh, but ever since she went to the new school she has been losing weight rapidly.
She lost herself basically, cause she no longer spoke to anyone. She no longer ate whatever she liked, she no longer participated in any conversation in the house. It is as if The Lema we all once loved and adored died.
She is always on her phone Googling "ways to lose weight fast", "how to be anorexic" or "ways of throwing up". I kind heard when she was on the phone talking to someone about getting weight loss pills over the shelf and lately she is always trying to avoid being in the same room, alone, with dad.
I may not understand what's going on with her but it seems like she doesn't feel comfortable around him and I just wish she knew how beautiful she is regardless of what she weighed.
"Mom," she says then faces Dad.
"Dad, may I please be excused."
She says while standing up and going to what I assume is the bathroom. As she passed dad I see him touch her butt in a rough way. She snaps her head towards him, he is smirking in a creepy way and then she looks at mom who is daydreaming as she eats her food. She gets out of his grip quickly then she rushed upstairs, to throw up whatever food did get into her mouth or all of the water she drank.
"Daddy, why won't Lema spend time with us?"
I ask my dad and see the smirk he had disappear. I am hoping he might know, because they were once close before, before we moved here to Australia. We used to live in South Africa, In a city called Johannesburg. We had to moved under short notice because dad got a well paying job in Australia.
"I don't know, angel. Finish your broccoli then go brush your teeth before going to sleep, okay."
"Okay daddy."
I eat my broccoli quickly then put both Lema's plate and mine into the kitchen sink. I walk out the kitchen and find dad forcing mom to eat the food.
