"Where on earth have you been! I was worried sick! It better not be a boy-"
"Mom! I'm sorry, I was with Ryan and-"
"You didn't-"
"No, I didn't! Who do you think raised me? I would never!" Could she think any worse of me? "We were just watching a movie, and I fell asleep. It wasn't on purpose Mom, I promise!" Finally we let each other finish our sentences.
"I'm sorry I was so quick to judge..." She calmly stated, "Wait! RYAN? Why would you go back to him?" Yep, Way not to judge mom....
"I know it's crazy Mom, but I think I love him."
"You can't."
"But, I do. I love the way his eyebrows move as he makes different faces. I love the scar he has on his left hand from helping his dad roof a house. I love the way his pants are always a bit wrinkled. I love his laugh. I love the way his deep voice makes his chest vibrate. Mom, You got to-"
"No."
Here I was pouring my heart out to the mom, I never tell anything to, and she ruined it by one single word. All the 'You don't understand' or 'You don't get me' phrases I threw around as a kid, actually were true at this very moment. The way my mom didn't trust me when I got home. The way she cuts me off, and doesn't let me finish came down to this argument. No, was all she said, but it meant a million things.
I felt the water sting my eyes, and one single tear was drug down my face. She saw, but didn't say another word. I took a deep breath, and calmed down before I exploded. "I'm going to my room, alone." I didn't recognize my voice when I visously spat out alone. I set my phone on the table, "Go ahead, read my text while I'm gone, you always do." I then walked off.
Tap tap tap. Ping!
I opened my window, and revealed a sneaky Ryan. "Hello, love of my life." He whispered. I shook my head, and gave him a smile. "What's the game plan?" He asked. I looked around, and quickly shut my door, so my mom wouldn't see.
"My mom doesn't like you."
"Great! Then, we'll just talk to her about that..." He started to climb in.
"Wait! She can't know you were in here." He nodded in understanding.
"I'll meet you at your front door?"
"Ok, go!" I yelled as I smoothly strutted back into the kitchen.
My mom wasn't facing me, until the floor creaked underneath my foot. She now stared at me with the same intimidating look moms always give. I looked down at my feet, wondering how I would start this conversation.
"Mom? We need to talk..."
"Okay?"
"I have been dating Ryan, and we have be together a long time. Now, I know you don't trust my decisions but- I have a witness to prove it." I opened the door, and he stepped inside gave my mom a charming grin, but she just scoffed at him.
"Mrs. Lancaster? I love your daughter. I know it's insane, But it's going to work out. I thought moving states would be fine, then, I came back far sooner than what I was planning because missing her hurts. I know I'm a jerk, but I can learn from my mistakes, Just give me a chance."
"Rose just gave me a speech on all the thing's she likes about you, your turn to convince me." He gave a light smirk, when he heard that.
"I love Rose Lancaster because; I love the way she trips in the hallway, and plays it off as if no one saw. I love the way the friz in her hair turns gold when the sun hits it. I love the way her face turns red when she laughs to hard. Everyone has imperfections, but Rose's are perfect. I know a lot of guys that don't think she is, but everyone has someone they find perfect, and Rose is that person. I love the way her perfume tickles my nose when we hug. I love the way she lightly squeezes me in our hug! I love her, and everything about her! You gotta believe me, I'm in love with your daughter." He said the last part lighter, and slower, which made his speech just that much more believeable.
"Fine, You got one shot kid." My mom threatened.
