Prologue

June 2005

Ah, Summer. Sun, heat, sand. These are the first thoughts that come to mind about this season. I miss the feeling of walking barefoot on the sand, feeling the sun kiss my skin, the salty air caress my body.

I would love to be on a beach, holding my sandals while walking on the shore and feeling the seawater lick my toes but instead, I found myself in that miserably hot, black graduation tunic.

It was supposed to be a celebration, maybe a few speeches but they decided to dump on us the history of the university and the pillar of the community it was. Maybe in a vain attempt to clear the record about the university's recent muddy reputation. I fought my annoyance with it all, or was it because I had a drop of sweat slowly descending my back?

I was anxious to meet the man I loved, catch a plane, and start our long-awaited vacation.

As soon as all the diplomas were delivered, we followed the tradition of passing the cap's pendant from the right side to the left, symbolizing the end of yet another academic step, and then throwing the academic cap into the air. While some people started agglomerating to discuss summer plans or snap pictures, I took out the suit, finally, revealing my outfit, a knee-length jean and a cold-shoulder t-shirt, and got out of the enclosure as fast as my legs allowed.

I got out of the university and spotted Kizua right away, well it wasn't difficult, he stood out no matter where he went. He was tall and broad-shouldered, his brown skin made the most beautiful caramel brown eyes stand out, a square jaw, and short black hair.

He was wearing full-length jeans and a t-shirt, that hugged his body in all the right places, his biceps and pecs stretching it to its full extent.

I ran to meet him and, effortlessly he lifted me so that we were on the same eye level. I was considerably shorter than him and despite having a few extra pounds he would lift me easily. One of his strong arms was around my waist, holding me up in the air, and the other hand found its way under my thick black hair to the back of my neck, pulling me into a fiery kiss, which ended much too soon. We lived together and although we were separated for only a few hours, I was longing for his touch.

"Where did you leave the car? I have to take another shower, and wear something decent before going to the airport."

"I had to park away, the graduation ceremony left the parking lot full to the brim, I'm sorry I missed your graduation ceremony. I already have our luggage in the car and I took care of our lunch reservations at a restaurant near the airport."

"The ceremony isn't a big deal for me, my diploma is. And that's why I love you, you're so thoughtful."

"Is it? And here I was thinking it was because I was a sex god."

"Funny... And yeah, I have no complaints."

I kissed him again without caring whether we had an audience or not.

We got to the car and got out of there as fast as the speed limit allowed, I was finally free from university.

We arrived at the apartment we shared and all of our belongings were boxed up to be transported to our newly acquired house, Kizua was careful not to box the towel and clothes I was going to use.

I took my well-deserved shower and put on a beautiful white evasé dress that fit me like a glove, contrasting with my bronzed skin. I put on a flat-heeled sandal, some simple accessories that included the beautiful droplet silver earrings that Kizua had gifted me on our anniversary, pinned my hair up in a high ponytail, and finally did a light makeup to highlight my green eyes and peach matte lip-gloss.
