I suddenly heard sounds coming from the walkie talkie around the corner.

"Spencer, what is your position?"

It was Maurice, I could recognize his voice anywhere.

"North corridor."

"Can you come over to the garden? We need help with something out here" Maurice asked.

"Sure thing, boss."

I could hear them walking away in the opposite direction, meanwhile, I was holding my breath from around the corner until they finally left.

I peeked around the corner once more to make sure. This was my chance to bolt, the utility room was only 30 feet away.

I gulped and tried to encourage myself, "you can do it, let's go!" then went for it.

I hit the utility room door fast, opening it then closing, and there I was, in complete darkness, the roof window entrance letting a small amount of natural light from the night sky into the room.

I stood in front of the ladder that led to the roof access window, taking a deep breath before my climb, it was only about 10 steps.

Nothing I can't handle, right?

I slowly opened the window, noticing that it was already unlocked, and pulling myself up to the roof above.

Using my upper body strength, I pulled my legs up and before I knew it, my whole body sat on the rooftop. I stood up to dust myself off for a second, then closing the roof door slowly, trying hard not to let it slam closed.

I almost peed myself when it made a semi loud "creek."

I stood up and turned around to face the view of the city and the river that separated us from them

I stood up and turned around to face the view of the city and the river that separated us from them. The night sky always looked so magical from up here, it was hard to look away.

"Perfect," I thought to myself, feeling an instant calm rush throughout my body. I turned once again, this time to find a comfortable place to sit for a while.

Trying to hold my balance, who knows what would happen if I fell... well, let's not think about that. I walked 3 feet when I realized that I wasn't alone.
