Friday honestly couldn’t have gone by any slower! It seemed like what was supposed to be an hour period, was drawn out to be three! I daydreamed in class, and quite possibly wrote “Hunter Hayes” as the answer to one of my algebra questions. Well, I guess that helps me not seem as smart as I really am.
Lindsey, Maddie, Christina, and I met up at Lindsey’s house after school.
“So did any of you guys make shirts or posters and that kinda stuff?” Maddie asked.
I was about to raise my hand proudly, when I realized nobody else had done the same.
“Good,” Maddie responded. “Because if you did, I would suggest you burn them now. We would look like to total idiots if we showed up wearing those.” Whelp, there went my amazing plans.
Turns out that these girl really know nothing about being a hayniac (which I found out is what he calls his fans). They know nothing about him, and don’t even know any of his songs. Maddie just saw interest in meeting a cute guy celebrity, and automatically wanted in on it, which I soon realized, was every single one of my “friends” ideas too.
Maddie drove us to the Staples Center within a good hour and a half. The whole way there, the girls were discussing their nails and ex-boyfriends, while I had my ear-buds in for a majority of the time, listening to none other than Hayes himself. I couldn’t believe that in just a bit, we would be meeting my new celebrity crush and obsession!
We pulled into the Staples Center parking lot, and we all started squealing! We entered the arena, bought some merch, and headed straight to the designated CHE room. There was nobody in there yet, except the room looked just like a Starbucks to me. They gave us a coffee because we were a half an hour early, and I gladly accepted, because, when isn’t it a good time for coffee?
When I had finally guzzled down the last bits of my coffee, the other hayniacs had started to pile up into the room. One girl lined up directly across from me at our table. She looked about our age, so I introduced myself.
“Hey,” I started off.
“Hi,” she replied while stringing her purse over the chair.
“My name’s Shayna, I’m eighteen years young, haha.”
“Hey,” she replied shyly. “I’m Cassidy, but everyone calls me Cass.”
“Nice to meet you Cass,” I replied. “You been a fan of Hunter’s for a while?”
“Yeah, actually for a bit. I saw him in concert about seven months ago, and I was a fan before that, so probably like a year, what about you?”
I honestly felt really bad for telling Cass that I was a new fan as of two days ago, and had the privilege of meeting this guy so early on in my fan days. But I decided to tell her the truth.
“Well, my “best friends” got meet and greets and tickets to the concert, so they invited me. They actually didn’t hear of Hunter until a few days ago. See, my friend’s dad is a top of the line doctor that works for celebrities, and one of the guys from Rascal Flatts mentioned Hunter. So my one friend said she wanted tickets because he was cute. At least I had the decency of looking him up and appreciating him for his music.”
“Well, you seem pretty cool. You play any instruments?” She asked.
“Well, I secretly play guitar, and I sing.”
“Can you play the kazoo?” she asked.
I shook my head to signal no. “Cause Hunter can’t whistle or play the kazoo!”
That actually surprised me. This guy who is so talented that he can play thirty two instruments, can’t even whistle or play the kazoo! Cass and I talked for a while more until we were interrupted my joyous and surprised screams. I looked down to find a pair of black Converse right in front of me, and up to see the most handsome guy I’ve ever seen.
