THE MOMENT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE THE START OF "THE ASSURGENT SERIES"

My body became tense once I heard the all too familiar voice. I instantly twist my body to face someone who was once not breathing. Someone who's eyes were closed the last time I saw them. Someone whose funeral I attended. Someone whose ashes I spreaded across the city. Someone I've wished to be alive. Someone I deeply missed. But it couldn't be her. There's no way at all. How? Her eyes are sparkling with tears bound to be released at any moment. Her lips are nearly pale, thin but full. Her hair is still short but growing. Her face flushed with the color red.

Her lips began to part as if she was going to say something. My breathing became unsteady, and fast. My eyes began to sting as they filled with tears. My emotions were rushing and mixing together. I didn't know what to feel. My heart began to beat faster and faster as I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Could it be? My hands began to shake, and turn red. I started walking backwards, until the back of my legs hit the table. I stumbled upon it. Nearly falling to the ground, but I felt someone catch me by my armpits. Zeke. My head began to throb. I clenched the seat I was sitting on until my knuckles turned white.

"Tri-T-Tris?" I stuttered. Trying desperately to raise to my feet. She began walking towards me.

My vision began to blur, black dots dancing around it. She was a couple of feet away from me when I blacked out.

I can feel the heat of his hand transmitting to mine. It's cold in the infirmary, I'm surprised that he's this warm. His eyes are closed, his face resting. As if I could push him awake, I probably could, but I didn't want to, I'm not even allowed to because the doctors told me to let him rest.. I'm scared to see the fear, and the sadness in his eyes. I'm scared to see the agony he's experiencing. But I want to be here. They make that pain, that suffering go away. I believe I can. I hope I can.

I miss looking into his eyes. I miss talking to him. I miss being with him. I love him. I want to be with him forever.

I hear someone walk in, and I look up to see Eveyln. She gasps and runs towards Tobias. I stand in between Tobias and Evelyn. She looks at me in shock, and I see the sadness leave her eyes. Taking its place is anger.

"You," She nearly growled, "You, did this to him!" She yells. "You did this! You fu- You did this!"

"Eveyln." I say looking away from her. But she steps closer.

"You did this!"

"Eveyln enough!" I yell back, not remembering that Tobias was behind me.

"You should've died!" With that I made eye contact with her again. "He was doing fine without you."

"You'd like to think that wouldn't you?" I reply, with a snarl.

"Yes because it's true!" She says.

"You obviously don't know him."

"Yes I do. I'm his mother for god sake!"

"No you don't!" I begin to raise my voice. "Because if you did, you would've seen the sadness within his eyes every time you looked at him! You may be his mother but all you want to do is control him, like you tried to do with the rest of the city!" With that she steps back, in shock.
