She's the new girl, but she definitely will not be someone's emotional punchbag, that's something that is in her past.
He's a Royale both by name and in school hierarchy, used to getting and having everything he wants - except the much needed thera...
My eyes grew bigger as she turned around, facing me.
"I believe you'll be great partners for this project, considering the impressive grades I saw on your transcripts." She was most definitely giving us the order to partner up, but she did so with the kindest smile I ever saw a teacher give.
"Sure, Miss Swift" I dared not say that I'd rather flunk the whole class and lose the extra credits than have to do an entire project with the clear jackass Parker Royale was.
The boy in question turned to look at me, and if looks could kill, I'd be long dead.
The rest of the class went on quite smoothly, with me avoiding turning to Parker's side of the class, dreading the moment we'd have to go pick up our paper.
When the bell rang, I picked up my bag and started walking to the teacher's desk, Parker right in front of me flirting with a couple of girls (none of which were the blonde girl I saw with him this morning, I noticed), almost as if he had forgotten about our assignment. My dream that he'd leave me to collect our instruction was short-lived though, as he turned around, staring at me, right before reaching the door.
I was looking at Ms Swift, who handed me a few pieces of paper.
"Here you go, Miss Amoroso. I expect to see exactly what you're capable of. Oh, and Mr Royale" she called, looking at him. "I'll be keeping an eye on you." And just like that, she shifted her attention to the next students.
Parker stormed off, I thanked Ms Swift under my breath and headed for the corridor. On my way out, someone shoved me against a set of lockers.
"What the HELL! " I cried out.
I looked around and saw Parker's buddy looking behind his shoulder snickering. Parker was beside him, glancing back at me with a sufficient look in his eyes.
"Deficiente..." I whispered as I picked up my fallen backpack.

I found my newly discovered friends standing at the end of the hallway, clearly stunned by what they had just witnessed between Parker and me. Walking over to Lucas, I noticed his smirk.
"You know Sof, you're in for a ride with Parker Royale as a project partner" he informed me, snickering.
Massaging mu bruised shoulder I added: "That idiot is going to cost me a good grade in one of my favourites classes"
Melanie gave me her attention just enough to declare that she liked me and that I'd be going far this year. I brushed off the compliment and wondered what classes they were going to next.
"I've got AP Spanish and Maths before lunch" Chris announced.
"I have Lit and then Maths with Chris" said Lucas, opening the locker behind him and picking out his English book.
I smiled. "Great, I've got AP Spanish too. Chris, care to save me a seat?"

The rest of the day passed with no major accidents, we steered clear of the cafeteria for lunch, choosing to eat outside, enjoying the last September rays of sunlight.
At the end of the school day, I was standing by my bike, putting on my helmet, when the blonde bimbo that was with Parker this morning - which I earlier learned was called Michelle - stormed in my direction. She stopped right in front of me a stared me down. Unfazed by the scene, I climb on the MT and put the key into the ignition before looking up to her, asking: "You need something?"
She put her hands on the handlebar and leaned closer. "You better stay away from my boyfriend, bitch. I will be a Royale, and you're not going to ruin it. Stay. Away."
I pull up my sun visor, leaned even closer, causing her to stumble back a little, and say: "Cara, I couldn't give a damn about you even if you were actual royalty. I have my own life to live, and I surely won't be standing on the sidelines of yours."
She took a step back, her mouth opened at the shock of someone speaking to her that way - she really was used to be treated with white gloves due to her stupid boyfriend. I turn the key, the engine revving as I put my foot on the gear shift.
"Oh, and you know what they did in France to royalty, right?" I ask, subtly implying that their "Royal Status" was not going to last long.
Her mouth opened again, and I saw her stomp her foot as I moved away from her and the school.

When I got home, my mom's car was not in the driveway, and as I got in, I saw a note she left on the fridge.
Baby girl, I'll be working late tonight, I'm sorry to miss you coming home from your first day of school. I've left you something to eat in the oven, or you can always just go and pick up something from the place at the end of the street - you know I love it when you cook ;)
Love, Mamma
I opened the oven and found some frozen premade lasagna that just had to be heated up. While I do love my mom, she has a knack for burning everything she tries to cook. Even when she was still back in Italy, Dad was always the one cooking. Hence the lack of something that wasn't frozen or packaged in the house.
I decide to take a walk to the nearest supermarket and see what they have that may spark my interest for dinner. I changed into a pair of sneakers, and I grabbed my grocery bag on my way out. With my headphones in, I tried to appreciate the view: our neighbourhood was on a small hill, looking out to the city at the bottom and to the millionaire mansions at the top. I could see the land stretching for miles.
Back home, after I put away the groceries and made myself a plate of fresh pasta, I went to sit down on our couch with my laptop, quickly checking my emails and social media. Eventually, I ended up falling asleep right there, a message waking me up at 1 in the morning.
