We ran through the hallway and towards the front doors. The bell was going off, the signal that meant we were entering a lock down. Students ran around but as we ran through the corridors I glanced behind us. Luckily the cyclops wasn't a speedy creature but I noticed that as kids ran around in a panic, right next to the creature, nobody seemed to see it.
As we were almost to the front door, I yelled to Clover
"What the hell, they don't even see it."
He turned around and replied "That would be the mist, they won't they're mortals."
The way he said that caused a chill to come over my body. They're mortals. He said it like we weren't.
We got out of the front door and ran through the school quad. Suddenly he stopped, turned around and started riffling through his backpack. As he emptied it tin cans fell out until finally he found what he was looking for. It was a dagger.
"How... what.." I asked clearly concerned.
"No time now," he said, "You gotta kill it."
I looked at him in shock, "KILL it?" i asked "And how am I exactly supposed to do that."
"Please..." he said, "You need to. It'll kill us."
"I'm not sure I can." I said starting to panic, beginning to accept that this might be the end.
"You can." he said, "If you do, I can tell you about your mother."
My heart skipped a beat. My mother? Could he really explain. The memory, the smiling face and my memory of my dad reaching down and picking me up from the porch. Could he really explain all that?
I was filled with a newfound determination I hadn't had before. I was going to kill that monster.
