Sage's POV

"I want you to sit here and wait for me", I say to my brother, "stay out of sight and out of people's way." He sighed and rolled his eyes at me. "So wreak as much havoc as possible?", he said with innocent eyes. I laughed and ruffled his dark hair. It caught the light as it moved. We took after our Pa, with our dark hair and human-like bodies, but we had our mom's pointed ears and shaped pupils. We both can change our eye color but that's the only physical feature we can change. We're both half-Autumn faeries and have a small amount of their powers. I am able to sense the weather changes before they happen and I can kill any living thing with a touch. Xander, my brother, is still strengthening his powers, so he can put living things to sleep for a few hours. We're not allowed to use our powers or we could be arrested for high treason. Xander is only 12 but is almost as tall as me, I guess it isn't hard since I'm only 5'3. He has green eyes and lock and key-shaped pupils. All faeries have shaped pupils that hold a hint at what their future brings. My pupils are shaped like swords and I still don't know what they mean, I'm 22.

"How long will you be gone for?", Xander asked me. He had a mischievous look on his face but his tone made him seem concerned. I'm kind of getting mixed signals as to why he wants to know how long I'll be gone but I shake away my thoughts and respond with," not long, maybe 2 hours". Our parents died when I was 14 leaving me to take care of 4-year-old Xander. We have no other family and nobody would take in faerie children, even though our father was a respected merchant. Anyways the money they left us didn't last long and I had to find a way to support us. I noticed that the performers at the markets always drew big crowds, so I decided to try my hand at it. The only problem was that magic is outlawed so that makes coming up with a performance much harder. I soon realized that humans will believe anything you tell them if you have pointed ears. So I started telling stories and making up prophecies. I draw in a big crowd and normally gain a few hundred tokens, I then go shopping and bring the items back to our house.

I go to my normal booth and start to set up. I put up my sign that says,"5 TOKENS FOR A PROPHECY". I start to sing a song about the old days when there was magic everywhere and people weren't disgusted to be around faeries, when the trees whispered and the leaves seemed to sing songs, but that's all over now. As soon as King Brian III became the ruler of the kingdom and married the cruel Queen Brian, they became harsh rulers. They immediately forced faeries into a lower class. People began to be disgusted to even be around faeries, but we still have some admirers. They come in every form and the lady at the market produce stall seems to be one since I always get a discount on our food.

The market is abuzz with motion, there's color everywhere. I began to nod off and I soon fall asleep.
