Luna

My feet pounded on the pavement beneath me. I could feel my lungs straining to keep up due to the frigid air and my heart pounded against my ribcage. I kept my pace going, keeping in mind that when the time comes, I'll be thanking myself for this.

Just as I turned onto the familiar street, I saw the sunrays inching their way into the sky. Sweating profusely and trying to catch my breath, I walked up the driveway and sat on the front porch of my aunt's house, and admired the sunrise.

Satisfied with my 'kind of' workout, I checked the time on my phone and mentally calculated that I had around half an hour to shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and reach school. There was no way I could possibly do that. I half-dreaded the thought but I realized I was going to be late for school. Not like I cared much to begin with. This place had been a hellhole when I was fifteen. How much could it have changed anyway?

Allow me to explain.

I had to move back to Storybrooke from Brooklyn this October to live with my aunt after my last set of foster parents were kidnapped and murdered.

Reason: unknown, according to the NYPD.

To say I was shocked was an utter understatement. Even though I was never keen on moving in with them, they had shown me nothing less than the love a parent has for their biological child. It took me around two months but I warmed up to Jill and Harry and hadn't looked back since. So, two years later, when the police sirens woke me up in the middle of the night only for me to find out that they were killed, it left me with an indescribable feeling.

Grief? Guilt? Remorse? Panic?

Yes to all of the above and maybe more.

After several unsuccessful therapy sessions and recurrent threats from some gang, my assigned therapist from the Social Services decided it was time I moved away from the city. She contacted my aunt, who reluctantly agreed to keep me with her till I turned 18, and within a week I was whisked away to my childhood town leaving behind the city.

At 17, I'm now an orphan stuck in an old, boring town living with my only blood relative, my aunt.

Fun, right?

The only thing that kept me sane for the two months since I've been here was Kiara George.

I first met her while I was strolling down the street collecting flowers when I was four years old. I bumped into her and landed on my butt and instead of pointing at me and laughing like the other girls were, she extended her hand to help me up and I took it. That was our first interaction and before I knew it, she became my best friend and I consider her my family as I don't really have any left.

By 7:23 AM, I was done showering and getting dressed. I left my hair down as I couldn't really afford to do something to it while I was practically racing against time.

I rushed down the stairs to see my aunt talking to her current boy toy, who seemed to be in a hurry to leave.

Ignoring both of their obvious stares, I snatched a couple of bananas from the kitchen counter deciding they were going to be my breakfast and made my way outside the house.

Conversation is minimal in this household and frankly, I prefer it that way. She's made it very clear that she wants me out of her place the second I'm an adult. So trust me when I say that my next birthday couldn't come any faster.

As I was turning the knob, I heard her call me over.

I was in front of her literally a second ago. Why couldn't she talk to me then?

"Yes?"

She turned around while pulling out the spare house key from her pocket and handed it to me without a word. All while her boy toy stared at me with a disgustingly creepy smirk on his face.

"Keep your eyes to your fucking self, asshole.", I seethed.

Flipping him off, I stormed out of the house, slamming the front door with such force, it rattled the old windows.

Even though I could hear my aunt shouting from inside, I decided to deal with her later and made my way to my most prized possession- Jade.

She was a custom made, black Aventador Roadster with an 'interesting' license plate that read DIAZ U SAY. Well, if you hadn't guessed already, I didn't get to choose the license plate as this was a gift from Harry for my 16th birthday.

Saying 'weird flex but okay' would be appropriate right about now.

It was the only thing I was allowed to keep- the Social Services seemed to have 'donated' everything else to an unnamed orphanage in the middle of nowhere.

"I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!", I heard Kia scream from the other side of Jade.

This girl nearly scared the living shit out of me.

"Kia, we watched a movie together yesterday!", I chuckled.

"So what? I have every damn right to miss my best friend if I want to. Especially if we couldn't have a sleepover after watching Mean Girls!", she whined.

Snickering to myself, I gave her a bone-crushing hug and unlocked Jade.

"Jeez girl, l missed you too but just so you know, we're going to be late.", I told her getting in.

She just stood next to the passenger side door and smiled at me with a glint of mischief in her eyes.

"Well, if you didn't know, my best friend is a foul-mouthed, dick-riding badass who definitely does not care about getting a tardy slip.", she quipped not more than a second later.

I just laughed at her description of me and told her to get her ass in or I'll be leaving without her.

She got in while I revved the engine a couple of times and soon I sped off.

Well, let's just say whoever gave me a driver's license was blind or I secretly drove Formula 1 racecars.

"LOONY WE ARE GOING TO DIE IF YOU DO NOT SLOW DOWN. I DON'T CARE IF WE'RE LATE. I WANNA LIVE TILL 80, NOT 18. DUDE, I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD MY FIRST ORGASM YET.", she screamed at the top of her lungs as I drove at 140 mph through the narrow streets.

I was completely unfazed though.

"Relax, Kia. Just close your eyes and imagine you're on a rollercoaster. We'll be there before you know it and fyi I'm gonna make sure you get a guy who can do all that and more by the end of the month."

She grumbled about wanting to wait for true love but I was having none of it. Life's way too short and so my advice is you gotta get as many orgasms as you can before you die y'know?

Thankfully Lakeview High isn't too far away from our street and within a few minutes, I pulled up into the school parking lot. As soon as we reached the school building, we heard the screeching of tires at the far end of the parking lot. Seeing absolutely no one around and assuming everyone was already in homeroom, I gave Kia a puzzled look and she mirrored my reaction.

There was a guy standing next to Jade, checking her license plate out.

I had a feeling that I had seen him somewhere before but I just couldn't remember where.

As I stood there, eyes transfixed on this known stranger, I realized his eyes were scanning the empty parking lot and soon they landed on me. I tried to look away but he had caught me staring at him. Snarling to himself, he started walking towards me.

Shit.
