It was already dark outside when our sweet sister-brother moment was interrupted by someone opening the front door.
That probably meant my mum was back because my ever drunk dad would never come home any time earlier than midnight.
I placed a small kiss on Suzzie's forehead before heading down to check.
"Mum you weren't home the whole day and Suzzie mentioned you not going to work today." I complained before my mum even put down the groceries she had.
"Well, good evening to you too son and I had a great day, thanks for asking" really mum!?!?! "You have to work on your manners young man" Yeah mum, but was that really necessary?
"Okay mum, I'm glad you had a great day. Where have you been all day, we've been worried" I lied.
"I went to the mall to pick stuff for Suzzie's birthday, you still remember it's in 2 day's time, right? I also bought some groceries then later..."
"Fine fine fiiine mum" I cut before she narrated every single thing she did. I wanted to know where she was but were the details necessary.
"Help me put this in young man" I hated that name.
I helped her out in the kitchen before we resumed to our normal after dinner program.
We were now at the pool. My favorite spot. Because this where all of us would meet outside the house. My dad excluded. What made this special was the fact that this was the only time Suzzie would get out of the house.
Deiy was already there when we got to the pool. She lived down the street not far from my home. We had all grown fond of her and she was our only friend. I didn't mention we shared something special on September 23. Our birthday.
We talked about Suzzie's birthday which was two days away. How only ten people would attend. Which was okay. Who would want people crowding the house. We didn't even have friends.
It was settled for a maximum of fifteen people. My mum insisted on inviting some relatives I'd never heard of.
"So when I was fifteen, still a young girl and beautiful of course..."
"Not again mum" I muttered ensuring nobody could hear. My mum would tell us stories about her past by picking random years. She told us almost everything that happened in the year she picked.
Some stories were interesting but I couldn't bring myself to admit that to anyone. Except inner me.After mum's story we shared random jokes that left all of us holding our stomachs. This was the best part of the whole being at the pool thing. In the course mum would pull us all in for random cuddles. I hated how clingy she could get but I still enjoyed the affection.
We didn't know what time it was until my dad interrupted. Was he even my dad? He didn't treat us like a father would. This made me hate him.
"You never listen Julie, do you?" My dad was now approaching my mum and it was too much for my liking. "You keep on pestering, baby sitting...." now pointing my sister and I. "...this little brats that messed up my entire life."
Liquor was smelling all over his body.
"Why don't you just die right now. You will soon, right?" He laughed at his own words pointing at Suzzie. I wasn't going to let this go easy. My nails were now digging in my palms.
I looked at Suzzie and my blood boiled further when I noticed her now glassy eyes. Everyone would get hurt if their "dad" said such things.
My mum wasn't taking in anymore of my dad's insults. Did I mention he was also abusive. For the first time I saw my mum let out her anger. She lifted her right hand ready to slap my dad when he pushed her to the ground and climbed on top of her.
BLOOD
I was not going to stand there and watch my "dad" assault mum. Deiy and Suzzie were literally screaming. A stone was next to my feet and that's what I used to break his damn scalp.
He fell off my mother. Her lower lip was swollen and bleeding. Black circles had began to form around her eyes. I hate you dad.
Deiy and Suzzie were soaking in tears. My mum just let out silent sobs as I lifted her off the ground. I walked her back to the house as Deiy and Suzzie followed slowly.
As for my dad, I wished him death.I cleaned my mum's wounds and let her sleep. I went to check on Suzzie after making sure my mum was deep in sleep. Suzzie had fallen asleep on Deiy's lap. Is this why I loved this girl?
No I don't love her. I had to make that clear to myself.I stared at them for a while, especially my sister Suzzie. She was sick and still had to deal with my annoying father. I left the room silently. I didn't want to wake Suzzie.
