CHAPTER 3
It was 5pm. I had to sneak out of the house quickly.
I checked on my mom to see her sleep deeply in her room.I went back to my room, put my favorite black hoodie on that made me look like a delinquent and stormed out of home. The one thing I wished for was not being caught by the police once I went out. I was walking like a pickpocket, trying to be as invisible as possible. There was no policeman in sight, which relieved me.
The way to my school was a bit risky. I didn't consider that before going out. What if I really get kidnapped?
I would rather be taken by the police than end up being kidnapped by girls' traffickers. That thought made me shiver. I started panicking . I could feel myself walking faster than before.
"- Miss ! someone called.
- I didn't answer. That's what I do when boys start catcalling in the streets. Ignoring make them go away.
-Miss! Stop or I will run!
Weird. They usually don't say that. Maybe a new tactic. They should know that threatening is never gonna seduce a girl ever.
I heard big steps approaching me. I turned around to see a 40-years-old man gripping onto my hoodie.
-Come her naughty girl. Don't try to escape or you'll be punished.
-Please let me go. I'll pay you. Please!"
I was terrified. I couldn't even turn around to see him. He was holding me so tight that my wrists were hurting. He put handcuffs on me and dragged me to a car.
On the road, he kept quiet and I was too frightened to talk. It was useless of me to beg to let me go. He wouldn't listen to me. So I just laid my head on the edge of the car's window, nearly fainting.
10 minutes later, he stopped the car.
"Here we are, he said. You'd better behave."
I followed me, still handcuffed. Then I realised that I was in the police station. "Oh my God, I was not being kidnapped, I told myself.
-Thank you, thank you sir! I told him.
-For what?
-For not kidnapping me.
He laughed.
And then said with a serious tone:
-You're still in a lot of trouble miss.He was right. My parents are gonna kick me off the house. Or worse, they're going to cancel my abroad studies. That would be a nightmare. A terrifying one.
" Miss you are being charged for going out and disobeying the sanitary measures.
-please, let me explain. It's my birthday.
-It is not an excuse miss. You'll be spending the night here, in the station.
-What? No that's impossible. My friend is waiti..
-We don't care miss. Those are the rules. And you should try respecting them if you don't want to end up in jail next time.
-Can I at least call my friend to let her know.
-You should call your parents instead if you want to be out soon. They need to pay the releasing bail. "
As hard as it is to admit it, my mother told me so.
They took my phone and all dangerous belongings.
I gave my mother's number to the policeman at the office."Hello this is ##### Station calling. We want to let you know that your daughter is with us right now. She was caught on ###### Street without an authorization and after the curfew.
Tomorrow you can pick her up to pay the bill...
Excuse me ma'am? Oh you won't pay for her .. Yes we understand that she's 18 but... Okay I will tell her. Thank you, good evening"That sounded bad, very very bad.
We're sorry for you miss. Your parents won't be taking your bail in charge. You should call someone else if you want to released soon.
I mean. If my daughter did what I did, I would definitely do the same. Although, why? Why, does she still need to be the winner on my birthday though?
I gave him Ines' phone number.
"- Can I talk to her? Please ? I asked the policeman.
Be quick."
"
-Hey Ines! I'm so so sorry! I got caught I'm in the police station right now. Can your dad please...-Oh my god. Layla I'm so sorry for you..
-Your dad is a lawyer he could help me right?
-I'm grounded. My driver has been caught because of me too. He won't listen to me. All this is my fault.
-What ?! Okay, don't worry I'll find a way. I think...
-Miss! Give me the phone back! said the policeman. "
He hung up the call and ordered me to follow him.
All this is happening to me because of a bat. Can you believe it?"- Here is your temporary cell. Tomorrow if someone pays the bail, you'll may go out.
-thank you. "
I looked at my cell to see that a boy was already inside, laughing at me. He looks like a 19-years-old but I'm not sure. He was tall, brown hair, greenish eyes. I could've thought that he was good-looking but he was laughing at me. I could let that happen.
I entered the cell, curious. Am I not supposed to be alone? The idea of spending the night with a guy, especially a haughty one, didn't please me at all.
" - Sooo.. Welcome ! he said with a smirk in his face.
I wanted to punch him in the face. How could he still be laughing while he was stuck in a cell?
-I'm not really in the mood to talk or even argue with you, I replied.
-Come on ! You're stuck with me here. At least try to make the experience less bad can you?
-What do you want?
-I don't know.. what's your name?I didn't want to give him my real name. What if he was a criminal? I don't know him yet. I looked at him and saw the big tattoo he had on the back of his neck. He did seem like a bad boy, I won't risk to give him information about me.
-Sofia.
-The real one?
-Sofia.
-Why are you so stubborn. I'm not gonna kill you.I knew he was not gonna kill me. At least I hoped so.
-okay okay, I'm Ines. Ines Mayer. Born here, raised here. What else? I guess that's all.
Why in the hell did I give him Ines' name ?
-Cool. "
I didn't want to ask his name, I couldn't care less. But just in case he was truly a criminal, I had to be polite..
" - what about you?
-Isaac
-Isaac what?
-Maybe I'll answer that tomorrow.
-Who said I'm still gonna be here tomorrow.
-That's the whole point."What a jerk. He wasn't trust worthy at all.
This day made me so tired. I had to sleep. Here I am sleeping in a police station, in an uncomfortable cell, with a hot annoying guy.
I turn around he was lying on the ground staring at the ceiling.
I threw my jacket on the floor and laid my head onto it.
I was ready to sleep ..." You're stuck with me Layla" he said.
